EBMUD Rocky Ridge Hike

Details: This is a twelve mile, nearly 3000 ft elevation gain lasso through the hills of EBMUD watershed land. This your chance to see what Contra Costa County would look like without its suburban sprawl.

Pace: Moderate to leisurely, i.e. approximately 2 mph on average. If you prefer to hike really fast and get back early, this is not the hike for you. Conversely this is not a stroll. If 2 mph is faster than you like to hike you will not enjoy this one. Mellow hikers especially welcome.

Leader: Steve Bakaley ( [masked] (preferred). or[masked])

Bring: Lunch, Snacks, layered clothing and at least 2 liters of water (no potable water source anywhere on the route - bring more if it's hot.) Well-fitting hiking boots with lug soles are strongly recommended as there are some steep downhills covered with ball-bearing-like pebbles.

Return to cars: approximately 6:15 PM.

Cancellation: Any rain cancels.

Meet: 10:00 am in the Rancho Laguna Park parking lot in Moraga.

Directions: Take Hwy 24 to the Orinda / San Pablo Dam Rd exit in Orinda. . Go south on Moraga Wy to Canyon Rd. Right on Canyon Rd to Camino Pablo. Left on Camino Pablo to park entrance (watch for it on left - easy to miss).

Carpool: Leader will be at Lafayette BART 9:15 am. Nonetheless you are encouraged to arrange your own carpools from places more convenient for you.

It was a beautiful area to hike and the weather was good. I enjoyed it very much and I only
wish that a hiking area like this was right around the corner from me. I met some nice people which is always the case when hiking with the Sierra Club, and Steve did a great job of leading the hike.

Absolutely great. This was one of those hikes that have kept me leading since 1985. A really great group of really nice people and near perfect weather. The first (and the worst) three uphills were in cool fog. It burned off at lunch. We had clear pleasant weather for the rest of the hike. The originator of this hike, John Calderwood, made a guest appearance at the end, meeting the group on Buckhorn Ridge.

I'll be starting within a couple of blocks from the Emeryville Public Market/Amtrack station. I can pick you up from there and also there's plenty of parking nearby. Or any of the nearby BART stations would work for me as well.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
