Winter Ride Series: Skeggs white omelette (15mi minimum B paced ride)

It's been a while since I did a one of our egg dish named Skeggs rides (i.e. green skeggs and ham, scrambled skeggs, fried skeggs etc.) so I thought I'd post an all new version.  This is going to be a faster paced ride at Skeggs where we'll do a minimum of 15 miles.  I'm thinking that many of the seasonal closures will be closed by now so I'll have to get a bit creative with the route, which may result in some doubling back on certain trails.  We'll also be looking at some fairly significant elevation gains during this ride.  If you've ridden with me before then you can expect a ride pace similar to that of our pack leaders on some of our C paced rides.  If this is your first time with us, then be ready for a quick fitness oriented ride.  We'll take fewer breaks but still stop at all the major spots.  This means that I'll go over our course before and during the ride to make sure we're all on the same page for each segment, which will allow for longer runs of uninterrupted riding.  This is bound to be a great ride, as is expected from SJMTB.

RIDE RATING:

THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER RIDE!

B PACE RIDE (FASTER UP AND DOWN HILL WITH FEWER BREAKS)

TECH 6/10: DUE MOSTLY TO THE LIKELY HOOD OF WET TRAILS THIS RIDE MAY BE WET AND DIRTY

PHYS 6/10: A FASTER PACE COUPLED WITH SOME LONG CLIMBS WILL MAKE THIS A GREAT WORKOUT RIDE.

15 MILES MINIMUM DISTANCE

2000FT+ GAIN

HOW TO GET THERE:

Skeggs point parking lot is located along Hwy 35 in Woodside.  The easiest way to get there from San Jose and the South bay is take Woodside Rd. from 280 and continue on hwy 84 up the hills.  Then make a right at the stop sign and drive about 5-8 miles to the Skeggs point lot (on your right).  If you're coming from the north you can take hwy 92 West out of San Mateo to catch Skyline Blvd (hwy 35).  Then just head south until you see the lot on your left (remember you'll have to drive past to make a legal U-turn as you cannot turn left into the lot).

As always a helmet is required for all SJMTB rides and extra protective gear is recommended if you are tentative about riding down rocky trails.  If the ride is relatively short so you shouldn't need too much in the way of supplies.  Water, a small snack, and your basic trail side tools (multi-tool, tube, pump) should be sufficient for these rides. Longer rides will require a bit more in the way of water and supplies. If you've got questions please contact the ride organizer or refer to the links below.

Keep the rubber side down

Alright folks... here's the skinny. This Thursday I go back in for follow up x-rays. If everything is cool then I'm planning on going ahead with this ride. I'll likely not be at full a speed and comfort level but I'll definitely try and make sure we at least get close to our goal distance.
