Responsive WordPress Website plus Quick WordPress Overview for Newbies

Our agenda:

Starting at 6:00 !  Please be on time as Cruzio locks their doors at 6 p.m.

6-6:15pm  Introductions

6:15-7:45pm  Topics of the evening: Responsive Design and WordPress Overview for newbies.

Responsive Design Lynette Rota and Melissa Smith will discuss what “responsive design” means, why it’s important, and how to plan for and implement it when designing a website. We will provide specific examples of responsive WordPress designs, discuss Premium Themes that are responsive, and share code examples. We will also discuss potential pitfalls, common mistakes and problems, and how to avoid them. Finally, we’ll talk about some popular add-ons that are responsive-ready, and some that aren’t.

Lynette Rota
Lynette is a talented graphic artist with a background in PHP programming and database management. She has designed and developed dozens of WordPress websites in the last two years. Lynette’s eye for color, layout and design have helped many businesses improve their online presence. She is currently designing & developing exclusively in Mobile Responsive for both e-commerce and service based businesses.
Melissa Smith
Melissa has a background in SEO and statistical analysis. She started working with WordPress in 2008 and has been building highly customized WordPress websites since then, including traditional brochure-style websites, blogs, e-commerce sites and membership sites. Melissa’s love of numbers and facts allow her to analyze how websites are being used by consumers and where there are opportunities for improvement.

Both Lynette and Melissa work for Equity Marketing Solutions, a locally owned website marketing & design firm, and Vertical Rail, an e-commerce marketing company that helps merchants stay competitive online.

This was the first WP meetup I have been too. So I have to give it 5 stars. It was very pertinent information, well explained. I wish I could have stayed for the newbies talk, but I had a long drive and the discussion was going in a direction that wasnt helpful for me so I left early. Otherwise, really great evening. Thanks.

BTW - I come from Carmel for these meetings and I would be reaaalllly upset if the door was locked and I couldnt get in. Traffic is very unpredictable.

Arrived a few minutes late, (less than 10).
Doors were locked and nobody ever came to check for late attendees.

I'm kinda pissed, that the event coordinator doesn't arrange to have someone in view of the glass door to let in attendees who are a few minutes late.

I had no alternative but to turn around and leave, even though I could see other attendees through the glass door, and I had already paid for parking.

Disappointed by the inconsideration and inflexibility.

Sorry, I was listening for the door, but the idea of a number to call is good. Cruzio locks the doors at 6pm.

Excellent talk. I walked away with a better understanding of media queries and things I needed to pay more attention to when customizing sites. Good info!

We always have some no-shows…We can probably get everybody in, so my suggestion is to show up and get a seat.

Is it possible to upgrade old HTML convert website to Wordpress?

    September 26, 2013

    • Melody S.

Well, not really. Wordpress Content Management Systems use a database and php programming; whereas HTML is just files that are uploaded. It's a different concept. Best to start over.

    • Robert S.

Ready to go. Ready, as you suggest, "to start over."

Please confirm - when are we likely to know if there's space in the Wordpress wed session?
What if we/I just show up?

My guest is now coming in my place as I cannot make it now. Todd Garrison is his name. Someone on the waitlist can use my spot now I imagine?
