Kick off the new year as we join with other local meetups for an evening with Chris Guillebeau, the author of The $100 StartUp and The Art of Non-Conformity. We are extremely excited that Chris has made Santa Cruz one of his stops on his Winter book tour.

This will be a truly special night as we bring together some of the largest Santa Cruz MeetUp groups such as Santa Cruz New Tech Meetup, Makers Factory, Santa Cruz WordPress Group, TechRaising, and Santa Cruz Next.

Please join us on January 21st from 6:00 - 8:00 at Cruzio (877 Cedar St) to listen to Chris talk about his experience starting businesses and share practical advice to help you do the same.  A Q&A session will follow.

This evening is sponsored by Cruzio Internet and Instant Magazine. There will be an after party as well brought to you by Santa Cruz Next.

$5 at the door.

Some info about Chris Guillebeau:

Still in his early thirties, Chris is on the verge of completing a tour of every country on earth — he’s already visited more than 175 nations — and yet he’s never held a “real job” or earned a regular paycheck. Rather, he has a special genius for turning ideas into income, and he uses what he earns both to support his life of adventure and to give back. Chris is an American entrepreneur, author, and speaker. He is best known for his popular blog, The Art of Non-Conformity, and his book of the same name. He has also written guides for travel and small business topics under the brand Unconventional Guides. He organizes the annual World Domination Summit in Portland, Oregon.

Chris Guillebeau wanted me to thank everyone for coming. He said he had a great time and really enjoyed meeting you all. I did an interview with him minutes before the event. Check it out at -

Unfortunately, I am currently out-of-town and will have to miss this great presentation. If anyone has the ability to make a video recording of tonight's presentation (or even just an audio one) and can post it online for Meetup members, that would be wonderful. Also, if there are any resource links or info from this presentation that could be posted here on the page or elsewhere online - I would greatly appreciate it. For all those in attendance, enjoy the evening! Thanks!

Hey everyone, only one week away till our special evening with Chris Guillebeau. Since it is turning out to be such a big event I need 3 volunteers to help me set up, clean up, and check people in. Let me know if you are interested. Thanks!

Also, Santa Cruz next is hosting the after party at Pono Hawaiian Grill. Free appetizers.

I'm traveling to Santa Cruz for this meet-up. Is there anyone that would be able to provide a couch-surf for me for 2 nights?

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
