Does our edge internet developers community also wonder, as I do, why the Meetup's typically slow internet access isn't faster, both up and down, which would allow a presenter to finish within their allotted time?

The food, community, speakers and their technology were wonderful!

Better organized--less fumbling with the projector/switching laptops issues. The presenters were interesting, but I had no idea who was going to speak until they started. Perhaps Doug could include the theme/who's presenting in his Meetup reminder e-mails? Frankly, as a motorcyclist, the presenter whose business-model is to provide smart-phone resources to drivers (Karaoke? Curse your fellow driver?) made me want to smack the phone out of his self-absorbed hands. To be fair, if someone is going to use a phone while driving, I'd rather they had fewer distractions in the process. However, I'm pretty sure this is encouraging the now-illegal practice of "texting" or non-hands-free phone use while driving. I'd prefer it if they more clearly stated "THIS IS FOR PASSENGER USE ONLY" or required the acknowledgment of a "don't text and drive" splash screen before allowing use of their application. Otherwise, it seems an implicit endorsement of the practice.

Good presenters but the all went way over. Need to get a gong or a hook. Keep to the time allotted.

I look forward to this every month! The majority (but not all) of last night's presenters needed to be tighter in their presentations to stay within the alloted time - and keep the meeting moving forward in a smooth and professional manner. I understand the phone apps presenter intent was to show people they could create an application in short order. However in my view as a professional speaker with 35 years experience speaking on the highest national and international levels, data entry of this kind in front of a live audience is not compelling enough to hold people's attention for this meeting format. And when inevitable technical glitches occur in execution it throws off the timing of delivery and the expectations of the other presenters and audience. In a ten minute delivery format, you never want to be more than a minute off of where you are and need to be to finish your presentation in the alloted time and be respectful of people's time and attention.

Great meeting, the speakers were well prepared and their presentations interesting. I think it is helpful to provide linkes to the speaker's material (they might be here, I just haven't found them yet). I will be back! It was mentioned that this format was a few years old but I beg to differ, I was on the board of the "Santa Barbara Science and Engineering Council" in the early '80s. We had the same format for the meeting except more people eat a full meal. We were a bit less software focused (obviously) and the web didn't play a part. The open mic session is new (great idea). Also, arranging to have the fireworks in Capitola was a stroke of genius! Thanks for organizing.

This was first meeting and I highly recommend the SC Meetup. I met new people, saw several people I worked with at past companies and saw some great demos by presenting companies. The venue was terrific too - good food, great views. All-in-all a great time.

    Loved being the unofficial greeter.

fun and interesting; fewer people made it more comfortable.

As always, the Meetup was worth attending!! I like the format, and the only suggestion I have, is to make sure the presenters keep to the timeline better, so the rest of them get a fair shake. Maybe a timekeeping piece of some sort that gives a warning bell, then allows 3 more minutes, or so. It must be hard to present their brandnew concept to everyone in 8 minutes, but they are told the rules! More than an hour of the audience sitting is hard to keep their focus, even when these companies are presenting amazing concepts! Thank you for a great evening, I do really enjoy them! Linda
