Can we please keep this forum professional?  At least the HP advertisements are still of a technical nature, in synch with the nature of this meetup, while the diatribe below is not.

Thanks,

Dan Iuster

yes , I am getting nausaiated about how meetup d o t com has devolved into a marketing tool in just the last 6 ish months.

It's as slimy now as " Dance Church" and facebook.

Meet up has become a forum for  ANYONE  pushing a product, or a self help healing group  or as just an example: "free"   reike attunements and techniques, and then up comes up his her  whole website of classes to attend at high fees.

Meetup was once a free to very low cost social networking  tool. Or psychics seeking out the same and paranormal,  but NOW we have to read between the lines and see what the agenda of the organizer was.

I joined a group where an Emily Cohen, made e meeting to teach people about political actvisman  and grass roots  politics.

In the follow up newsletter I was appauled that she is trying to raise money for her synagogue.

As an atheist secular jew... I gave her a piece of my mind for the misrepresenation.

I found a women's group I like enough to go over the hill for it.

TODAY I notice that it is held at chiro's office , so the organizer is promoting her  her friend's practice. grrrr.

All her namastes and" womens well" stuff just  is a ruse to promote  fund raising.

Now I see  meetups promoting Christian  meet ups to promote a church.

I w'd  be reviled  ALSO  if the most progressive synagogue in town, Chadesh Yameun, (where I dont affiliate)  used meet up dot c a l m  as a fundraing  tool.

Beware folks , the L D S   folks will glom onto meet up forum soon,  and be money hounds, and the coporate  big wigs if meet u p d o t c o m  will sigh and laugh all the way to the bank.

There are even folk meet up  music groups meeting in my town, and they charge 10 dollars  for all members. Meetings are well attended.Three meetings weekly in this mountain music  jam group They pay 25 a month to be organizers...and should recoup this money, but NO, it's a thriving BUSINESS for them .

Groups devoted to enjoying the arts, local  theatre, hiking , book clubs,  bicycling, just for fun  stuff, do not often have an agenda for the organizer's  pocket books..

Beware.

Greetings,

I have ended the HP sponsorship because of member objections to emailed advertising.
