Bring a snack for our stop at the bottom.

We'll be going to Neptunes Net for food after the hike...

From the corner of PCH and Yerba Buena... it's 4 miles to the Ranger Station at Circle X Ranch... and an additional .6 miles to the parking lot on the LEFT.

A great trail. Loved the rock scrambling , so much fun and very liberating to use your limes that way, kinda reminds me of the childhood fun...
Would have stayed in Neptune net for food but they don't have a real restroom and the line for ordering food is unbelievably long...so I decide to drive home, but since I have got my mind fixed on seafood, I feel I have to have fresh seafood before I go home...so I stopped by Malibu seafood and had my favorite steamed mussels! Yum!! :)
Thank you John for organizing another great hike!

Helen and Wendy. Be warned. Rock scrambling can become addicting. It happened to me about a year ago (started at the Grotto in fact). I described it as feeling like a child again. Yes, very liberating; Forget all your worries and forget all your cares.

Great hike, enjoyed the rock scrambling! Neptune's Net was a madhouse, but the fresh seafood + beer delivered! Couldn't stay for Matador beach, but thanks John for another fun adventure!

I agree.. I always push my comfort zone and get a great work out going on john's hikes. The grotto is a tough hike/climb but u feel soooo great when u finish. On a difficulty scale from 1 to 5 , with 5 the most difficult, i would rate it a 4. Pretty steep jumps off rocks.. And it was great I had gloves!! Thanks again John for a great hike in an oh so beautiful place!

i would have stayed for Neptune, but the place looked so jam packed and chaotic that i just thought i'd drive back to wind down and soak up some more beautiful scenery on the way back.

Early poison oak? Darn, just can't risk it.

    February 22, 2013

  • Eric B

Three waterfalls and a hike along a cool stream! Ooh, I'll bet those poison oak vines with the barely visible leaf buds are just licking their chops in anticipation of us brushing by them. I'll bring along an industrial size container of Tecnu.

    2 · February 21, 2013

    • wendy

Hi Eric.. How can u prevent poison oak? I thought you're either exposed or you're not, no? what.. Do u have some chemical that puts an invisible barrier to prevent exposure? Then i want some!

      February 21, 2013

Yes, but don't drink too much. Yuck!

    Hi -
I'm wondering how this hike compares to Fossil Ridge -- more/less difficult? Can someone help?
    Thanks!

    February 20, 2013

HALF the altitude and 3/4 the distance... making it "a bunch" easier than Fossil Ridge...
