Spring Surfing

Beginner surfers, this is your day to experience El Porto, one of the best surf spots in LA! The waves will be small so come out and enjoy the day with us. **It will be best to bring a longboard if you have one.

Forecasts for both Sunset and Porto are less than ideal but Porto has the best potential to actually be able to catch something so I settled on it. **That said, if you can't make it to Porto, please update your RSVP status accordingly.

Let's meet on the sand at Tower 40, which corresponds to 40th street, at 8:30 AM sharp. The main entrance to the parking lot is at 45th street. Tower 40 is south of the main entrance so keep driving once you get in. Look for us on the beach. I will bring the blue SMS flag but it isn't large. As always, it's best to get there on time if you want to surf with us. Latecomers often can't identify us once we're disbursed in the water.

Always appreciated to have a nice crowd to shoot the breeze with when it's small. Until next time.

Super fun morning. Loved meeting everyone. Little, easy to catch waves. Every now and then, it's nice to take a break from the washing machine. Thanks, Ryan, for organizing. :)

I got extremely sick today and probably will not make it tomorrow. Thank you for your offer to let me borrow your board! Hopefully next time

  • Anna

Hey guys & girls... does anyone have a longboard (even a foamie will do) that I could borrow?..

    March 29, 2013

    • Rob

Hey Anna, I have a 9-0 performance (thin) longboard you can borrow. It's pretty rad.

Sorry - I can't make El Porto on Sat. Really hope to join you next time! In the meantime, I do still plan to surf at Sunset on Sat!

  • Carol

I unfortunately won't be able to make it at Porto on Sat am, but if anyone still wants to surf at Sunset, I'll be there!

Ryan ... tide and wind should be good for Sunset next Saturday morning. Waves might be small but that is probably good for anyone who is learning.

Thanks Rob. I don't know how others are getting such differing forecasts if everyone is using the same source.

      March 25, 2013

    • Ron

1-2' El Porto should be fine with the low tide. probably shouldn't be crowded either ... at least i hope not.

I am very new at surfing. Is there a place to rent?

    March 22, 2013

    • Al M.

I found out the other day that there is a shop right on the boardwalk that rents and opens around 7! Its on the north side of windward, right next to the hostel. They always have a bunch of bikes out front.

    • Ryan

Thanks Al. To clarify for anyone, Al is referring to a shop in Venice so if anyone wants to stop there the morning of, before going to our surf session location, you can get a board there.

I dig the Bu on a average day.

Would love to check the group. For me depends where you end up surfing. Santa Monica sometimesisnt bad if its small.

Prefer El Porto myself....almost always good. Sunset is great on.ideal days, which aren't that common.

As of Thursday morning the forecast for sunset looks really good in 2-3 ft range. If there are beginners in the group I'd stay steer clear of larger Porto until they are strong enough to paddle out in heavy wash. Sunset should be super fun and the crowd is always so chill

    March 21, 2013

    • Ryan

Haha not cool. At least there's hope for Sunset then. I'll continue checking as we get closer to the date. Thanks Norris.

    • Shannon K.

I was at sunset this afternoon. There was decent sized waves 1-3ft with occasional 4+. Same with the night before.

      March 22, 2013

  • Shannon K.

If it ends up being sunset I can go. Otherwise have a great time if it ends up being el Porto.
