This sign up is only for the people taking lessons . If you are RSVPing for a friend and are not taking a lesson please count your RSVP as your plus one and make a note of it in the comments (if you have guests taking a lesson, RSVP to include them too). If you are hanging out or instructing, please rsvp on the instructor sign up (even if you have RSVPed here because that's not you).
THERE WILL BE TWO LESSONS FOR TWO DIFFERENT GROUPS OF PEOPLE, DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU ARRIVE.
9:10 AM THE FIRST LESSON BEGINS
9:40 AM THE SECOND LESSON BEGINS
After each lesson, you will pair up with your instructors for private pop-up practice and then enter the water with them for the rest of the event, prior to lunch.
Hello new surfers!
I'm excited to have you join us and to help instruct you in the great sport of surfing. Please make sure to read this entire post as it will detail what you should expect and what will be required of you to make this year's Beginner Day run nice and smooth.
First and most important you should expect to have fun!
You should plan to get to Porto a bit early so you can find parking, change into your wetsuit, and be on the beach by 9am. Make sure you have at least $5 in quarters. Parking is 10min per $.25.
Come on down to the beach and introduce yourself. We will split everyone up into groups based on your ability level and pair up students and instructors.
For first-time surfers and those that would like a refresher course (most of you), we will do a beach instruction on surfing fundamentals, then your instructor will take you into the water.
Please feel free to ask questions.
The lessons will last around 2 hours but some of the instructors will be available to stay with you if you want to stay in the water and continue practicing.
Between 12 and 1 PM, we will pack up and relax with some food and beers at Sharkeez. They will be giving us the hookup!
While it may be disappointing to see that we're charging for this event, the meager $5 fee is quite cheap compared to the typical price of around $120. Proceeds will be reinvested into the group to pay for meetup dues and various other things.
