Data Visualization libraries: discuss, demo and show some code

There are many javascript libraries that are helping to make robust data visualizations much easier to implement in our web apps. We will begin with a discussion of some patterns of implementation and demo some of the work we've done using d3 and highcharts.

All demos and discussions related to web development are welcome: ngularjs, the up-coming framework from Google, jQuery plugin, Deploy Rails application using capistrano

Good information. Actually demonstrated the technology.

Fun intro to D3, can't wait to find a project complicated enough to need to use it. At least now I know it is there.

The demo was really good, I really enjoyed the presentation. The questions were good and the answers even better.
Blair showed us some of his code and some of the cool things he did with the library.
We even go t a surprise small demo of high charts.

If you have an example of an interesting visualization you would like to share, let me know so I can make sure we schedule adequate time for everyone to get a turn.

This is a great topic. I was just reading about D3 today and how to use it with R.

Do we decide on the topic of the May 1 meetup yet?

    April 11, 2013

  • Bill N.

Labatt Food Service has generously offered the use of our training room for the May 1 meetup. There will be plenty of tables and chairs with a screen and projector available for showing code to the group.

    Bring all your programmer friends.

I can offer a room with plenty of tables and chairs and space for a projector in either the Stone Oak area or northeast (I35/Rittiman).

Let me which you prefer and I will set it up.

      Bill,
Thank you very much for your offer.
Rittiman is very near my office, but I can do either one.

When do most of you think that it is a good time for another meeting? And is there any topic that you want to discuss, or want to hear about?

I can present a variety of things, from software architecture design principle to Ruby On Rails hand-on, javascript (jQuery, Angularjs ...etc..), iOS programming with Objective C or jQuery mobile, TDD/BDD software development.

Stone Oak is my preference as well

Not real crazy about the Buffalo Wild Wings location either. Too loud a venue to engage in any real group discussions.

Any chance we can get a better venue? Maybe somewhere with a projector so we can demo things? Is anyone a Hackerspace or Geekdom member? Maybe we can get some room at one of those places.

I agree. This is 2 months without a presentation. If everyone wants to have wings and beer that can be a separate meeting. But let's get a venue and get back to monthly presentations. Personally I was looking forward to Javascript Libraries.
