Climbing at the Pinnacles

http://mountainproject.com/v/california/sf_bay_area/pinnacles_national_monument/105733947

or check out the pictures of our previous meetups there.

It should take about 2 hours to get there from the south bay. We will meet in the Bear Gulch parking lot (the lower lot in the photo above). The lots tend to fill up early so lets plan to meet at 9:30am. If that is too early let us know and we can climb at Discovery wall until you arrive.

If you use a GPS to get there, be sure it takes you to the east entrance of the park via route 25 to 146. If you go to the west entrance by accident it takes over an hour to correct the mistake.

Several of us will be camping at the park or near by Saturday night and climb on Sunday. You are welcome to join us for dinner and camping if I manage to make a reservation.

For current weather see:

 http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=36.49694150847516&lon=-121.18675231933594&site=mtr&smap=1&unit=0&lg=en&FcstType=text

Gear:
We should already have at least 2 ropes, draws and some gear coming with us. Let me know what you plan to bring when you RSVP so we can avoid having many more climbers than ropes. I recommend a helmet when climbing outdoors and a headlamp. However, safety is 100% your responsibility at all times.

If you provide a phone number I can let you know about last minute changes. Cell phone signals are very spotty in the park, plan accordingly.

This should be a great time. I hope to see you there!

For anyone who is secretly interested, the site we are camping in is number 661, and it's Thousand Trails San Benito. You're all welcome to join!

Bruce and I are driving up tonight and will get a site at Thousand Trails San Batista. I will try to post up the site number for those who want to camp Saturday. I also changed the meetup time to 9:00am for Sunday. For those who are driving, this may be a bit early, so we will hang around on Discovery Wall for a few hours as people show up. See you there!

It would be nice to get a site at Pinnacles, but it looks like that may be impossible. We'll probably end up at Thousand Trails.

I'm planning to camp on Saturday night, anyone else?

So who all is camping and who is driving down in the morning?

    April 19, 2011

I called Thousand Trails (20 miles north of the park) and apparently there is no need for a reservation. They will have plenty of tent camping over the weekend. This will be a step down from the Pinnacles campground, but should still be fun.

Camping at the Pinnacles is getting a little tight. They have 6 spots available on a first come first serve basis. The closest camp site is Thousand Trails San Batista.
