Jason Feingold, on Gradle and Scala

Jason is going to discuss using Gradle, rather than SBT, to build Scala projects.

Duncan DeVore and Viridity Energy have offered to host the meeting. (Thanks, Duncan!)

    Jason's slides are now online (but not his code). Slides are here:

    I found the following article to be useful, in getting Gradle to run the Scala console: http://sethrylan.org/2013/07/02/scala-gradle-scalaconsole.html

    I substituted Scala[masked] as the version, since that's what I'm using. Also, I recommend running with "-q" when firing up the console, e.g.:

    $ gradle -q scalaConsole

    I actually created a task alias called "console", because I'm lazy:

    task console(dependsOn: 'scalaConsole')

    I have been playing with the Gradle testing for Scala. It took me a bit to figure out how to wrap the Specs2 in a JUnit format. Here was a helpful page if anyone else is looking at this.

    Martin Fowler's 2005 article on Rake is here: http://martinfowler.com/articles/rake.html

    Much (most?) of what he says applies equally to Gradle, at least conceptually.

    Whoops!

    I popped a spoke on the way into work today and it took way longer than I was hoping it would fixing it. I'm almost certainly going to have to skid this one. Sorry!

    I am hoping that sometime we can do a deep dive on SBT itself. We "fell back" on maven under time pressures. I get SBT, but have not worked with it enough to fully grasp it yet.

      I can do a dive into SBT session. Perhaps August, if there's interest.
