Scalathon - the International Scala Hackathon

Please visit the official site for details.

This is the main Scalathon event: Saturday July 16 & Sunday July 17., 2011.

NOTE: To RSVP for this event, you must become a member of the PHASE Meetup group. (That's a Meetup.com restriction; we have no control over that requirement.)

You're welcome to leave PHASE after the Scalathon, though we hope you'll stick around. (Don't leave before the Scalathon, though; you'll lose your seat, if you do.)

Had a great time. Since I'm still in the ramp up phase, I spent more time working tutorials on akka than I did really contributing to the hackathon. But met lots of interesting people and attended a few sessions, all of which were pretty good. Looking forward to digging in and contributing. Really appreciate the enthusiasm of the community.

This was the best Meetup I've ever attended. I learned tons, met lots of really smart people, and had fun.

I really liked hanging out in the hallways talking to various people. The special community lunch was a great way to discuss some of the most pressing needs of the community and gather people that are willing and able to contribute some of the missing pieces. Hopefully, we'll continue the discussion. I think the doc spree on Friday was a great a way to get people started with contributing to the API documentation. In general, socializing was greatly facilitated by bringing people together to have dinner and/or drinks together. Sponsoring seemed to have worked out really well.

Lots of famous brains (P. Phillips, D. Spiewak and all the not-less-famous others...), lots of motivated contributors (many of which didn't have any specific project in mind before coming to scalathon, which I think is great !)... excellent experience so far !

The best Scala event ever. Talks were informative. Food was good. Getting to know all the Scala heroes face to face and sending them pull requests? Priceless. Awesome job guys.

Thanks for the tip! Coming out about the same price (I was able to get a student discount with Amtrak) but definitely faster.

Megabus is much cheaper and faster than Amtrak for that route: http://us.megabus.com/

Is anyone travelling from Pittsburgh by car, with a spare seat? I am of course willing to pay for gas. I'm not from the US so I generally could use some help figuring out how to get from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia, Amtrak currently looks like the cheapest option at $90 return but takes ~8 hours each way.
