    Part 3

You're quite right about there being good people in our group. A lot of them have just stopped coming. Frankly, after over 6 years of this, I've come to realize that I am putting in way more effort than many other people in the group. It's a bit of a haul for me from the Lower East Side (I know it's worse for others), and that's the point, of this diatribe. If more people would make the effort, then we'd have some better meetups. August was not the first time the attendance didn't work out. You and I have been to more than our share of meetups when it's been 2 or 3 of us, if we're lucky. I'm sorry Mike, I can't keep up this level of effort. There are over 800 members in this group, yet, if I've seen more than 25 of them in 6-1/2 years, I'll be surprised. I'm tired

    Part 2

Another complaint , is that we don't do anything other than talk at a dinner meeting. Yet, when you have set up movie outings, the same sort of thing happens. 15 people RSVP, and maybe 6 actually show up. How can people say that our group is too inactive, when they don't show up for the activities we do have, and don't come to the meetings, to actually suggest something to do ? See part 3 (sorry to be so long winded)

Hi Mike, I read yours and Jerry's comments about the group, and I spent all weekend thinking about this. We have discussed this many times in the past. Here's why I feel the way that I do. Since I joined the group, I have been to 75 of meetups. I missed 2 because I spaced out on time or date, and 1 I missed due to a communications error with meetup's computer system. Not too shabby an attendance record.

As I have said before, I get there an hour before, set the tables, and eat dinner. I'm usually the first one there. Now, how many of those meetings have run, because I was there to greet whoever showed ? If I had done like Jerry suggested, wait 15 minutes and left, then how many of those meetings would have gone south ? Jerry is right that more effort has to be made, with people showing up, on time.

    End Part 1

This is the problem with this group. If someone isn't there at 6 PM, and waiting for an hoour +, as I usually do, everyone thinks that no one showed. I'm tired of this happening. I spaced out, and missed the meeting. That's only the 2nd time in 6 years. There are way too many no shows in this group, and I have talked endlessly about this with History Mike and others in the group. I quit.,

Hello Mark, Please, do not swear off The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy MeetUp Group. I know that The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy MeetUp Group has its problems, but it is still a viable MeetUp group and has some great members. I probably did not help The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy MeetUp Group's The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy MeetUp Group August MeetUp, this past Tuesday, August 6, 2013, that Mr. Folasayo "Fola" FADAHUNSI sent out a confusing last minute e-mail blast, making seem like The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy MeetUp Group August MeetUp was cancelled, either. Turn out might not always be fantastic, but the MeetUp meetings usually happen without a hitch. Michael (aka History Mike)

There seem to be two primary problems that need to be addressed here: 1) members need to come on time. An allowance of ten or fifteen minutes is fine -- more is not. If people can't make it at 7PM, we should consider starting at 7:30PM or 8. 2) members need to RSVP "NO" if they CAN'T make it, even up to a half-hour before the start of the meeting. That would enable others to see if enough are coming to make attendance worthwhile.

Maybe the start time of future meetings should be reset to 8, if people can't make it on time at 7. I must have just missed Brian, because I hung out front until 7:20, when I gave up...

I got to Skylight Diner, at around 7:35 PM and only Mr. Brian JENNINGS was there. Brian said that he got to Skylight Diner at around 7:20 PM, and that he did not see anyone else.

I must have had a senior moment. I completely spaced out (very appropriate choice of words), and didn't make it. I'm really sorry about that, and I am usually there at about 6

    No one showed!

I was there until 7:20. No one showed, so I split as well. I hope we can do better in the future. I thought everyone else had been abducted by an alien craft...

Is this only going until 8? Or do people stay longer?

Blast and damn! I can't make it either! Drink a stiff one of Romulan ale for me, and I'll make it to the next one!

My Aunt and Uncle, are visiting, from Texas, this day and date, so I probably will not be able to join The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy Meetup Group's "The New York City Sci-Fi/Fantasy Meetup Group August Meetup", on Tuesday, August 6. Michael (aka History Mike)

I feel like I have been living in a sci-fi desert recently. None of my current friends get why it's hysterical that the Votans and the Humans can breed in syfy's Defiance and all the Votans are humanoid. 9 "independent" species in one star system! They just LOOK at me when I try to explain this.

And nobody has a frigging laptop! Techno-grunge huh? I need sci-fi people! See ya.

Looking forward to it. Hopefully I will be caught up most of the films that we will be discussing. I will bring along a friend too.
