There is also Gam3rCon, now in it's third year. It runs concurrent with SDCC, but at the 10th Avenue theatre, and has video gaming lounges, table top gaming, live theater, rooftop concerts and an art show. gam3rcon.com

There is also Popcon LA the week prior just up in LA:  tickets are $20 / $25 day  I have some discount ticket information available too.

Subject: [scifi-31] Comic-Con Outsiders event: can you help?

Do you know someone who can’t get into the Comic-Con this year?

The San Diego Comic Con has grown so large that many people have trouble getting in. So, I’m organizing events this year which will take place outside of the convention center. All of the events are free and will be hosted by local businesses.

This will take place the weekend before Comic-Con (July 6-8, 2012 – Friday through Sunday).

This is where you come in. Would you like to host an event? We need: Artists, writers, costumes, and events for panels, demos, presentations, lectures, costume contests and . . . in short, everything that the Comic Con has.

Please contact me with whatever events you’re interested in organizing. I will put you in touch with local businesses who’d like to participate. Several businesses have already agreed to provide space for our events.

In addition, some of my friends are organizing a “Pre-Comic-Con” along Adams Avenue. I’ll let you know more as I learn about it.

Some events we’d like to have:

Artists Alley (Do you know any artists?)
Lectures on subjects such as:
How to Draw/Paint
Digital Art
Writing
Panels (Would you like to host a panel?).
Comic Trading
Small Press (Do you publish comics yourself?).
Movies (How would you like to run a movie marathon for your favorite show?)
Anime (Cosplay, Anime marathons, drawing contests, etc).

Please let me know if you want to participate.

P.S. Note that I am not affiliated with the Comic-Con. I’m doing this for fun.
