  • August 7, 2013 · 7:00 PM

Bring a short story or novel chapter to read aloud and we'll give you instant round-robin critiques. We are a friendly group which welcomes writers at all levels of experience.

For the most part, it was a blast. The sheer variety of the stories and writing styles kept it pretty entertaining, and I loved hearing the writers share their stories. If you love sf/f (or horror), you are in good company here. I recommend coming early to get a good seat, and be ready to get invested in the stories. I think I feel compelled to go back just to know what progress has been made in the stories, especially because some of them are fascinating!

As you can see, as compulsive-neurotic, I often repeat myself....

Good to be back with the "wild bunch." Many of the participants and contributors are clearly at least borderline schizophrenics who are not taking their medications - but that just serves to put scifi and fantasy on a wonderful overdrive! My next short story will be called "The Phantom Vagina Syndrome." Thanks to all for the inspiration. Each work was accepted on its own terms and criticism - though often laced with sarcasm and humor - was always good-hearted and well-intentioned. I learned a lot about how to improve my writing. As a start I'm going off of my medications and terminating my shock treatment therapy.....,

Great! I learned a lot. Was never more excited about doing a major re-write. Will attend again to become a better writer. Great advice! Fun stories too

Sounds good. We generally like a short synopsis of the work, you know, just a quick break down to orient us, and we maintain a 4000 word maximum, so everyone gets to read. There's no minumum limit that I know of.

I was limiting it to 1100words and was worried it might be too long... good. Can't wait

So this is being held @ Quill's Coffee, correct?

Yes! And don't be fooled by the meetup site. The start time is actually 6:30!!! We have trouble updating the site.

    Where will this be held?

Thx Meg. As a Louisville noob is there parking nearby?

      August 5, 2013

Ah ha. An astute question. Personally I would NOT park on Baxter avenue proper. Risky. They have funny toeing ticketing rules, but there are a wealth of surrounding side streets that run perpendicular to Baxter. I usually park down the one next to outlook inn (I think that's the name of that bar). I don't know if quills itself has parking.

I will not be able to attend the meeting on the 7th due to complications I am having from the surgery I had on July 26th, but I should be able to make it to the next one.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
