Autobelay Climbing at Climbzone (Braehead)

  • Aug 6, 2012 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

This meeting is for existing members of Braehead (which includes GCC members) only and is open to all standard of climber.

At Climbzone there are no top or lead ropes, this is replaced with an autobelay system, a top roped metal wire that you attach to your harness that has a little upwards tension on it, if you do fall or lower yourself from the climb a breaking sytem kicks in and gently lowers you to the ground.

There is a wide range of well set routes at all levels, covering a variety of styles, the gradings are consistent and it's generally quite quiet (and warm!). Due to the nature of auto-belays you also get as much time as you want on a particular route so it's great for technique and stamina training, a lot of Braehead regulars return to the same routes each week, in many cases gradually improving their climbing grade. As the night progresses and people tire :-) we generally congregate around a few routes.

The Climbzone is owned by the same owners as the GCC so any GCC passes can be used - if you are paying on entry it's £6 for GCC members (equipment hire is free).

Note that the climbing now officially opens to 9PM* on a Monday for the club; of course feel free to start earlier if you are available.

*[note to organiser] - email the manager (Dave dot [masked]) to confirm 9PM opening.
