Spring Maintenance Day

Join us on March 23rd to prepare the SCOW fleet for the sailing season.

Volunteering for maintenance day is educational and fun and provides a hands on opportunity to learn about boat maintenance. Those not familiar with maintaining the fleet will learn from the more experienced members.

Use your skills and knowledge -- whether you are a hands-on person or mechanically-challenged, your help is needed and very much appreciated.  SCOW relies exclusively on volunteers to keep the fleet clean and in good working order throughout the year.

Had a wonderful time meeting new faces. learned how to install a solarfan and how to "fix" a beveled aluminum mast footing.

Mark, it was great meeting you yesterday and thanks for your help and the "extra hands" fixing the mast. Hope to see you sailing this summer

Thank you everyone for coming down and giving us a hand today. We accomplished quite a bit, and the fleet is in good shape for the season.

Hey--I'm not going to make it today. Fell off a ladder last night and I can't bend my right knee, + sore all over. Sorry I will miss the chance to work on cleaning the fleet and meeting you all. See you soon.

Carolyn, hope the injury isn't too bad and that you're recovering well. Please give it plenty of RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Hope you'll be back on your feet and the water soon.

I thought racing was cancelled last Wednesday?!?!?

      March 22, 2013

    • Charles

John, yes, racing was cancelled, which is why Kim didn't get to sail. Hopefully the wind and temperature will be better next week!

What is the parking situation? Free parking?

    March 21, 2013

    • Charles

Just as Kim said, parking at the marina is free, and there is plenty of it. There's even an overflow lot if the normal lot fills.

@Rachel, I live right by the courthouse metro and can give you a ride from there.

    March 18, 2013

    • Rachel

Brooke, that would be great! It's early in the week for me to 100% confirm, but I will write again by early Thursday or Friday (can e-mail you directly through your profile) – just needed to know if logistics were theoretically feasible.

    Hey everyone,

I'm coming from DC but will likely have to use public transportation. Any chance I can get a pickup from somewhere on the yellow line? Thanks!

    March 18, 2013

    • Charles

I will be coming to the marina via the GW Parkway and will be able to pick up a couple people at the airport metro at around 9:30am.

Hi! Would you know whether the bus (I don't remember which) that runs to Mount Vernon passes by that location? And/or does anyone anticipate coming from either the Silver Spring area or DC or a direction that passes by a Northern Virginia Metro station? Deciding whether this fun event is feasible for me, thanks!
