After 10 hours of hard fought Scrabble in our Summer 2010 Tournament on Saturday, a big congratulations goes to the winner, Kevin, and the runner-up, Mary. We had a best of 3 first round, and then brackets in the following rounds (one-and-done) and even had to move to Borders across the street for the last two rounds after National Place closed. Cash prizes of $80 and $40 were awarded to our two winners. A kudos to Mike T. (the founder) and Jon, who were a part of our top 4 as well! It was a fun time and I appreciated everyone's enthusiasm and patience throughout the event.
Also, congratulations to the winners of the highest overall score, Steve (442 pts) and the highest single play, Kelly (92 pts). They will receive their choice of a hard cover 4th edition Scrabble Dictionary, a Travel Scrabble, or a Scrabble Diamond Edition.
I hope to post pictures of the some of the winner boards and scores this event on the event page, and again, congratulations to all our winners!
Join us for Scrabble and dining events held in casual settings throughout DC and NOVA!! We start our games roughly around 6 pm and most people stay around for one or two more games after that till about 9 p.m. This group is not focused on tournament play. The level of play is varied. Some of our members play on a regular basis while many others are learning the game or have not played in years. We play open book Scrabble, where use of a dictionary is permitted during the game. Our turnout for an event is generally between eight to twenty people. We play every other week rotating between casual restaurants in DC and Virginia on different nights of the week. We do sometimes request a $1-$2 donation to cover the cost of Meetup.com's fees. We invite you to join us for a fun evening...beginners and first timers are always welcome!
