Our Screenwriter's Meetup has focused areas of discussion about screenwriting and film, with meetings scheduled 1 x per month (the 3rd Saturday of every month). See the 2015 calendar for upcoming meetings/agendas. The Meetup will provide members with a forum to share resources and ideas (loglines, original pages, table reading) as well as provide structure and accountability for those who have a strong interest in completing an original feature-length script before the end of the year.
We focus on two areas: reviewing a film and sharing work, either original work where a member is looking for specific feedback, or analyzing an award-winning or popular script which will be used to generate discussion and learning.
Our Goal: To share and collaborate on screenwriting in a safe and welcoming environment where each writer, regardless of experience, is valued. To collaborate about writing goals through mutual support, shared resources and writing experiences.
Tenants: Work is distributed only to registered members and is distributed via the Meetup site.
Success is achieved by the collaboration and involvement of members, not the direction of the organizers.
We recognize that writing is one aspect of film creation. This Group focuses on screenwriting, but welcome splinter groups and encourage those with broader interests to have the flexibility to meet with others in the group whenever they choose.
We typically meet at LPQ on King street in Old Town Alexandria, but with the nice weather, we will meet up at Waterfront Park in Old Town on 1A Prince Street by the water. For outdoor meetings, please bring a lawn chair or blanket.
