TV WRITING: The Sitcom

Welcome To The Writer’s Room

This is the only class of its kind—run like a real writer’s room on a 30 minute TV comedy series, taught by a professional showrunner with over 25 years of industry experience—and featuring the work of 12 talented student writers.

You’ll not only learn how to write a half hour spec script that can open the door to a job in Hollywood, you’ll actually write one for the show of your choice, and collaborate on the development of a script for a different show each week, just like they do in the big leagues.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll learn the elements of a successful half-hour comedy series, and how to write a series spec script that shows off your ability to create what every network, studio, and series producer is looking for: a professional grade script plays within the structure of the series for which you want to write, while showing off your unique talent as a writer.

You’ll not only have real world experience of working in a TV writer’s room, you’ll also connect with a community of writers you can depend on, and the knowledge you need to write a professional grade spec script you can use to pursue a job on an existing show.

A Teacher You Can Trust
With more than 25 years of Hollywood experience, Jerome has been a showrunner, writer, and producer on some of the most successful half-hour series in history, including “The Jeffersons,” “The Golden Girls,” “Frasier,” “The Nanny,” and “Married…with Children.”

Now, he brings a lifetime of experience directly to you as your teacher, showrunner, mentor and coach.

It says the first day of this workshop. Can you tell me will there be other days added of this particular workshop

    June 12, 2013

    • Jacob K.

Hi Terrenova, This is the first day of a 10 week long workshop (it meets for 10 consecutive Mondays). The idea is to let students sit in the first day and see if it's a fit for them. So we won't be adding additional days on Meetup, but you can definitely come for the first day to check it out. And if you won't be in town, we can connect you live online via webex.
