The Tampa Scuba Diving Group has scheduled a new meetup on Sunday June 2nd, 2013 at 8:00am.
We will be diving the USS. Mowhawk with Captain James Bostwick and Aristakat Charters in Venice, Florida.
The USS Mohawk was Commissioned in 1935, and played a very important role in helping to protect US shores, launching 14 attacks against submarines between 1942 and 1945.
The ship has traveled around the world, creating a rich history with the US Coast Guard. The "Mighty Mo" is best known for making the last radio call to General Dwight D. Eisenhower, signaling the weather was clear to begin D. Day operations. On July 2, 2012 The Mohawk was towed 28 miles out to sea and scuttled in 85 feet of water, turning her into the newest diving attraction in the Gulf and the most recent addition of our Veteran's Memorial Reef Habitat.
Our 2nd dive will be at the Railroad Boxcars in (72'). This site holds several species of colorful fish and other sea life. it is also home for a large population of Goliath Grouper.
