Come join us exploring beyond the familiar limits of Breakwater and Metridium Fields. Beyond the Breakwater we all know too well are the places seldom seen by most divers. That is right, farther out it is deeper, the visibility increases, and there are fewer novices roiling the waters. The creatures living farther out have not all been frightened away by the groups, and most of us have not yet ventured out beyond where our instructors led us. Being Halloween, we are hoping there will be less classes and divers in the water. Breakwater beyond the usual extent is an underappreciated wall dive with a plethora of nooks and crannies; excellent habitat often occupied by some of the most interesting creatures, each hoping not to be discovered by the curious. That is where we the curious come in and spot them. This is a hands-off dive intended to discover creatures which are unfamiliar to ourselves. Lay your eyes on some critter and remember some distinct details in their appearance and behavior. During our surface interval we will exchange descriptions of the creatures sighted and see if we can figure out what we saw. Most can look and see a fish, some can spot a crab, those who look even closer can distinguish amongst nudibranchs. These creatures seem to live in their costumes. See if you can spot the cryptic creature laying in its lair paused for predation. The Metridium Fields dive off the same beach as Breakwater has recently had some surprising and delightful fish sightings. We will be navigating on the surface and descending close to our destination. Using the minimum of our air to get there will maximize the air we have to enjoy the site with time to fully appreciate these majestic califlower-like anemones. Keep your eyes open on this dive. The upwelling seems to have come to an end, visibility is improving, and interesting observations are being made. What will you see that you have not seen before? Last week Metridium Fields blew this assistant organizer's mind. How lucky can we get this time? Join us on this dive and find out! Costumes are not mandatory.
