Lets Dive and get ready for the Monterey Shootout!

The largest Bay Area Underwater Photo Competition, The Monterey Shootout and Film Festival, is coming up August 9th - 11th.

This dive will be to get your gear ready and prepare to have fun with fellow underwater photographers and divers participating in a fantastic event hosted by NCUPS.

You don't have to be a photographer to attend this event or to enjoy the Shootout. All it takes is a desire to get wet and see what our oceans have to offer. See you soon!

Second dive - https://vimeo.com/70981998. More color balancing horror. Just received my PolarPro filter for GoPro, so will need to try it out soon :)

GoPro? Seen them mounted on a pole (or spear gun!) . They are shaky, though. I'd make sure the camera is attached or clipped to you in some way, so it doesn't drift off on a solo dive.

    Cheers,

I'll make this and plan on bringing two tanks and a camera. Anyone what to carpool? I'll be departing from the Berkeley area by 6:30 or 7:00 AM.

I'm not a UW photographer (yet), but I'll enjoy the diving.

Seems like we have a group. I will rsvp gear for Sat at my local dive shop! :)

Any ideas what's the best way to mount GoPro? I googled around and seems like typical head mount is fine. Better to have a direct mount on the mask or make a DIY hand-holder. Any one ever tried to mount on the tank?

I have seen video of the tank mount and it's pretty cool but not much control of what you shoot. Backscatter will be open and you may want to check out some of their setups for the GoPro. Anytime the device is out of your hands, you loose control of what you are shooting.

I have a friend who mounts it on a speargun, when he's not fishing he takes out the spear, when he is fishing it's right up on the action.
