Thanksgiving Weekend Diving?

Hey all, just wondering if anyone wants to escape the extended family for a bit and do some diving in Monterey Thanksgiving weekend? Saturday the 30th would be best for me. I'm looking to do some new sites, so if anyone has experience with, or suggestions for sites OTHER than Breakwater, Wharf, Macabe- that would be great. I've never done Lover's or Monastery, or been out to the Metridium fields. I would probably like to start early on the 30th, and do 2 or 3 dives. I'll be driving down from San Francisco, with room for 2 other divers and gear in my car. Let me know if you'd like to join! Best, Peter

Tiffany & Dan- do you have a preference as to day and dive location? I'd prefer Saturday, but it will probably come down to conditions. Probably less traffic Saturday as well. Swell model looks really bad for Thursday/Early Friday, meaning things still might be cloudy Saturday:

I'm doing photography, so would prefer better conditions. Friday looks iffy at this point...

I think the coarse sand may settle fairly quickly there. Predictions look like North will be protected from the swells on Saturday, but be prepared to change sites should we show up and see otherwise. If all is well, I know how to get to the canyon or through the shallow reefs. :)

Hi all - I have a last-min work trip and will need to cancel this to get on a flight. My apologies.

Hi Peter, I might be able to join you since I'm already planning to dive on Sunday. Let me see if I can find a place to crash in Monterey, and also check the water temperature to see how frozen I will be if I dive two days in a row. :)

Well, of course I have to make it happen, especially since I want to try new sites, too! I've been looking at Lover's Point and Butterfly House, though I hear the walking entry for the latter is a bit questionable...

I would love to do a Pt. Lobos Dive. Is that an option?

I've only done Monastery South, and the navigation there was very tough for my buddy and I. We had to surface twice to get our bearings - though it was a fantastic dive. I've wanted to do Pt Lobos again for a while as the last time I was there was a while ago. That said, I would easily spend a 3-tank day at Monastery - re-do the South and do North as well.

I've been to Monastery North and South once each, and navigating North was much easier than South. It'd be fun to get as far as the canyon, which I hear is about 300 yards out. Alternatively, I'm pretty sure I know how to get back to Metridium Fields. Triangulate the back of the bathrooms to the deli on the marina with the whale mural on Reeside Avenue, then follow the giant pipe.
