I learned to knit as a kid, but never really did anything with it, and dropped it for 30 years. Then I got the idea in the fall of 05 to knit some hats as Christmas gifts. 2 hats later, I was hooked. Now I can't stop!
I've been getting into sweaters and sleeveless tops lately. And I can't seem to stop spinning. Not knitting with what I spin, just spinning.
My mother taught me the basics when I was about 9. Since I picked it up again last fall, I've learned everything from the internet (yay blogs, Ravelry and online tutorials!).
I need more spinning skills! I've got the basics down but want to expand to other techniques and fibers (though I did just spin and knit something out of cashmere).
Hey! My husband and I moved to San Jose from Vermont in Spring of '06. I'd started knitting just before I got here but since then it's become a huge part of my life - and so has spinning.
I'm very happy that I found it! Everyone was very friendly, and there wasn't any exclusive/elitist attitude as far as I could tell. I'll be joining you again!
