I'd been crocheting on and off since I was about 7 or 8. I've been knitting a little over a year, now and love it! Being a SciFi Geek I've made the obligatory Doctor Who Scarf, which has since gone missing, sadly. I don't have a favorite technique per se. It's more about the pattern and whether it appeals to me. I do have a bad habit of taking a pattern and altering it on the fly, or creating something from scratch rather than hunting for a pattern. The results are amusing but I usually muddle through. Thank goodness for YouTube! ;-D As for knitting, I've taken a class but haven't practiced. I'm still at the stage where I have to pay attention to the stitches and get easily distracted so it's not as fun.
Scarves, shirts, shawls, sweaters, dishclothes, tarot deck cozies, just about anything that appeals to me.
My mother taught me to crochet with a book she'd picked up at Woolworth's, I think (I've still got the book). I wanted to learn to knit as well and took a course at Green Planet Yarn but it was joining the knit group that really got me to focus and improve my knitting skills.
How to make clothing that fits me and is comfortable to wear. Most off the rack shirts and sweaters are a miserable fit, unless I get men's sizes. Besides, there are far too many pretty yarns around NOT to make beautiful sweaters and vests and shirts.
I'm Laurie and I crochet and knit. I love playing with yarn more than is healthy for my pocket book. ;-D
