PLEAS NOTE: Given the weather situation, I do not encourage anyone to ride to the march on a 2-wheeler if it is raining and/or if the roads are exceedingly wet tomorrow morning. However, unless it is pouring rain, we WILL still be marching in support of the homeless at 8 a.m.
This special Ride-Out is sponsored by the San Diego Sqooterheads.
We're about rolling pretty ... and doing good for the community. We're doing a special All-People's Ride-Out to Hillcrest on March 9 for this community 5k walk to help the homeless: http://uptownfaith.org/walk-for-homeless/.
Your $25 entry fee goes directly to helping San Diego's homeless population ... and gets you a free hot breakfast to boot! Here's what the church does for homeless people and what your $25 entry fee will go toward (in addition to a free hot breakfast for yourself): http://uptownfaith.org/services-offered/
It's a 3-mile walk from Hillcrest to North Park and back to our rides in Hillcrest.
A Ride-Out means you ride to a gathering point from wherever you are. Here's what's going on:
* 7:45 a.m. - 8 a.m. -- REGISTRATION & WALK -- Show up on your 2-wheeled steed at University Christian Church, 3900 Cleveland Avenue, San Diego, CA a little before 8 a.m. The first 10 scooters to show up will be able to park inside the church courtyard. Otherwise, scout around for parking near the church. Don't forget your $25 registration fee, which goes directly to the church's programs helping the homeless.
* 10 a.m. -- HOT BREAKFAST -- After the walk returns to UCC, we'll enjoy a hot breakfast there, starting at 10 a.m. Breakfast is included with your entry fee.ed -- bicycle, e-bike, moped, scooter, motorcycle ... whatever! -- at University Christian Church in Hillcrest at 3900 Cleveland Avenue by 8 a.m. to register and do the 3-mile walk from Hillcrest to North Park and back. Those not wanting to walk the whole way can hop on a shuttle for a ride back to the start.
* 11 a.m. -- ALL PEOPLE'S RIDE -- At 11 a.m. (after breakfast) those eager to ride are invited to take part in the All People's Ride to Balboa Park. We'll ride down Park Boulevard to President's Way and park in the motorcycle parking area behind the Organ Pavilion. All 2-wheelers (I can also think of some three-wheelers who might come) are welcome. Park Boulevard has sharrows some of the way and a bike lane some of the way for our bicycle, e-bike and moped riders. Scooterists and motorcyclists will ride at a moderate pace so we all get to Balboa Park around the same time. Our route: http://goo.gl/maps/91yBj
By the way, there is a lot going on in Balboa Park on March 9 (including the big annual Cherry Blossom Festival), so take your pick. Our ride ends there, freeing you up to do what you want in the Park. Here's what's going on: http://www.balboapark.org/calendar/2013-03-09
All these 2-wheelers uniting for a good cause? Gonna get crazy. Crazy fun!
See you Saturday, March 9.
