4th Annual "WE CARE" Holiday Mixer

For the past two years, the San Diego Sqooterheads have joined San Diego's major LGBTQ sports leagues in sponsoring this very fun and very worthy cause. This year sees the return of the SD American Flag Football League, SD Hoops Basketball, SD Tennis Federation, SAGA Ski/Snowboard, Armada Rugby, High Rollers Bowling League ... and the San Diego Sqooterheads!! This year will also have a new addition to the mixer with the San Diego Frontrunners/Walkers.

All are coming together to GIVE BACK all we can to the KIDS!! We are giving back to 3 awesome charities in just one night -- Youth Programs at The Center SD, students of Memorial Preparatory Academy in Logan Heights, and the Imperial Court de San Diego TOYS for KIDS Drive.

All guests to this free event are encouraged to bring unwrapped toys, which go towards the Imperial Court's TOYS for KIDS drive. And there are raffle drawings for great prizes all night long, with 100% of the proceeds going to The Center youth programs and Memorial Prep.

As a major sponsor of this event, we get a couple minutes to speak to the hundreds who will be attendance about the Sqooterheads and the joy of scootering, possibly recruiting a few new members! We'll also contribute a raffle prize. And we will be able to display a poster about the Sqooterheads and run the video of our historic ride in the Pride Parade. Plus, we'll get to line up our scooters near the entrance to 1202 and show them off to all the attendees.

Each sport league will also introduce themselves and provide a raffle prize. Also, representatives of the charities will speak, including a representative of The Center SD, Principal Barajas-Aguirre of Memorial Prep, and Big Mike for the Imperial Court Toys for Tots Drive.

At our December 5 Holiday Lights Happy Hump Day Ride we'll decide on what raffle prize we want to provide.

For added fun this year, Santa and his elves will be present, with Scott Donald doing photography, DJ Marcel providing music for the night, and everyone's favorite friendly host, Russ Edra. Plus, free appetizers from The Range and drink specials all night.

This amazing event is the brainchild of one of my closest friends, Junior Buendia, who is a young leader in San Diego's GLBTQ sports community and founded a group of GLBTQ athletes called the Stunnas to promote GLBTQ sports and giving back to the community.

At this event, more hot GLBTQ athletes gather together under one roof for worthy causes than at any other time during the year.

Message from Junior: "Thank you very much to everyone for their participation and support. Together we all make up a GREAT team!! I really appreciate it!"

Some new pics just uploaded. On January 9, 2013, I helped present a check supporting Youth Programs at The Center to Christopher Mills of The Center. So proud of the San Diego Sqooterheads for being one of the sponsors of the We Care Holiday Mixer last month. Sqooterheads Jan, Lisa, George, and Tom joined me in representing the club at that event.

    Note from Junior:

We were able to raise 3K for the youth programs at the Center SD and also students at Memorial Prep!! In addition we also raised over 1500+ toys for local kids in San Diego whose families needed assistance. Despite all the hate, discrimination, and bullying occurring in our world today, we come together to help ALL of our KIDS!!

    Sincerely,
    Fernando Buendia Laysa "JUNIOR"

I wanna give a big shout out to the Sqooterheads who rode over to support the We CARE Holiday Mixer at 1202 in Hillcrest last night. A lot of people commented on how cool our scooters looked lined up in front of the club, and our display table was a hit too. Your participation directly helped the kids in our communities, from Hillcrest to Barrio Logan and beyond, So hats (or helmets) off to: Jan, Lisa, George, and Tom!

Sqooterheads, we've decided to donate a $50 gift card to Jamba Juice for the We CARE Holiday Mixer we are helping sponsor on Sunday. This should be a popular raffle prize among the many athletes that will be present. When you see me next, I'd appreciate getting a few dollars from you to help defray the $50 cost of the card. Thanks!

So far I have confirmation that me, Cameron, and Lisa will be representing the Sqooterheads at this fun and worthy event on Sunday and parking our scooters directly in front of the club. There is room for four more scooters alongside us. If you are coming on Sunday, let me know in a comment here, so i can make sure a spot is saved for your scooter.

I scouted out the venue at 1202 in Hillcrest yesterday with the event folks and guess what? We get to park up to 6 scooters front-and-center, right in front of 1202 during the Mixer. The[masked] people attending will see our scooters lined up as they walk in. So, the first six Sqooterheads who RSVP for this event at https://www.facebook.com/events/127576254062129/ will have first dibs on those six spots. So far, two spots are taken -- by me and Cameron. Hmmm, who will get the next four? :) Once you RSVP at the link above, please also mention you are coming in a comment on this post, so I can keep track of which Sqooterheads are going. Thanks.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
