Holiday Party Potluck and Game Day!

As usual, our Evil Queen Carol Haney is inviting ALL her gaming friends to enjoy a Holiday Party on Saturday, December 8, 2012. However, the castle is under construction (needed extra room in the moat for the new monsters), so our alternate venue will be Ralph Baty's house in University City.

PLEASE RSVP right away so we can get an idea of how many are interested.  This will be a combined Christmas party for San Diego Boardgames Group (SDBG) as well as for the two Saturday groups - Barbara's Bunch, and the Phoenix Group!   For extra merry-making, the early start time will be approximately 3 pm, with a pot luck dinner at 6 or so.

RSVPs with food you are bringing would be helpful in coordinating things (we don't want 29 Jello salads, folks!) Xmas-y dishes would be nice. There will also be a gift exchange game later in the evening (around 8:00) for those who wish to participate. The rules are:  Bring a wrapped gift of approximately $10. value.  It doesn't have to be gaming related, but it does need to be something anyone (guy or gal) could use.  This item can be wrapped once, twice, or three times! (Think box {within box [within box]}). Players are assigned a random order. When it's your turn, you can either choose a wrapped gift from under the tree, or one that someone else has already unwrapped. (Bummer if you get the starting position!) The catch is, if you unwrap something and find another box inside, you have to stop; you may not know what's in it until the game is over, or when someone takes it from you. Items can change hands ("stolen" is such a harsh word!) up to three times; after that, the person who has it gets to keep it. Obviously, things can get passed around quite a lot, and the more people who play,  the better it is.  Sooo - get out the paper, scissors and tape, people!!

But wait, there's more!! In addition, those who wish may participate in the (in)famous "CANDY CAN'T" game. It's a conversation game, and may be played all during the evening without interfering with whatever else you're doing. Rules are simple, and will be explained upon your arrival - don't forget to collect your "starter cane"!  The basic idea is that you "can't" say a certain thing! And yep, there IS a prize - the winner gets the privilege of going last in the gift exchange - that means you get the "pick of the litter", so to speak.

Everybody mark your calendars early for the Great Gamers Gala - at RALPH BATY'S house this year! Remember, this is an earlier-than-usual start time.  Again, RSVP's will be greatly appreciated - the sooner the better.  Call Carol at[masked] or Ralph at[masked]-3358.  So please, everyone, RSVP here and call Carol or Ralph to talk about what Potluck food you'd like to bring.

Do any of us want to consider carpooling there? Post a note about it here in the event. Also,  PLEASE feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions/questions/problems.

I learned a new game and met some new members. The gift exchange was a lot of fun, as expected. I had a great time there tonight.

I just noticed it starts at 3pm! Yikes it's 2:15 now. I can't possibly get away until around 6:30. Hope to be able to still eat some and play some games. Was going to bring a veggie tray but may bring drinks and something else.

    Ralph and/or Evil Queen,
Is there anything specific needed for the potluck, like main course, snacks etc.? I haven't come up with anything to bring.
    Thanks! Allison

Amy: This meetup has no fees. These Saturday ones are potluck (read more in the description), but that's not required, either. We also meet up during the week at various places around town. It's nice if you purchase something when we meet at a commercial establishment, but that's not required, either.

I'm thinking I'll bring cheesy hash brown hot dish. I assume I can heat things up when I get to Ralph's?
