2nd Wednesday Knitting and Crocheting Meetup

We meet at Panera in Grossmont Center (near Entrance #3).  It's centrally located, has food, indoor and outdoor seating, ample parking, and lots of options both before and after the Meetup.  Panera has a long table inside and several tables outside, which may be nice now that the weather is improving.  Just remember our retail courtesy - since we are taking up space at a business, please purchase at least a beverage (refills are free).

Hope to see you at Panera.

Happy Knitting & Crocheting,

Kat & Amy

We are in the middle of a move and my husband went to the old house to shift them here. I had to stay home with the kids. I have my needles and yarn and am going to give it a shot! Hopefully I will have some kind of a grasp on knitting when I do attend my first meetup.

I don't actually know how to knit ... yet. I have yarn, can anyone suggest a good needle size to start? I'm good with my hands and can do needlework, and I don't want to start too big or I won't like what I make. But, I don't want to make it too difficult on myself. Thanks in advance! :)

For practice-- see the posts to Sylvia. Since you already have yarn-- choose a smooth one (acrylic or wool) in a light/bright color you like, then look on the label for suggested hook/needle size, and go up one or two sizes. Don't start with novelty yarns, thick & thin, boucle, dark or variegated-- it's hard to see your stitches. You can make swatches of different stitches, and use them for "mug rugs" until you're ready to start a larger project.

just go to joannes or micheals and get a yarn that is smooth and medium in weight...the yarn wrapper will tell you what size knitting needles/crochet hook are standard for the yarn. I hope this helps :) You can get all kinds of books from the library & most yarn web sites have free instructions...youtube is also awesome!

To be more specific: get Red Heart Super Saver in a light or bright solid color (no dark or variegated) and a H, I or J hook for crochet practice. Michaels, JoAnns or WalMart should have what you need. Not sure what needles are best for knitting, but in general, go one size up from what is listed on the yarn label so you get a loose fabric.

Hi All! I've never knit anything at all and am looking for a local beginners class. Could you recommend one? I'm in East Chula Vista. Thanks!

Welcome! Sometimes local Yarn Shops have classes or Adult Schools.

I'll have to miss this one. We're having a "Cookie Wars" at work the next day, and I'll be spending the evening baking.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
