Outdoor Portrait Lighting - Natural and Artificial Light

Outdoor Portrait Lighting

If you have ever wanted to take beautiful, professional quality outdoor portraits, this workshop is for you. This workshop will teach you how to use various outdoor lighting techniques and lighting equipment to light your model in different situations.

The workshop will include natural light and artificial light, using reflectors, on and off camera flash, diffusion panels, p-22s, flags and on location battery powered strobes to light your subject. We will also go over what we call a "jump case", which includes gels, clips and other accessories that we bring on any location shoot, to better understand how to prepare yourself for any lighting situation.

Model will be present for demonstrations and practice.

We will start this workshop in the afternoon so that we can work with the sun's direction to better understand how to adapt to each lighting situation. We recommend that members have a DSLR camera and a good grasp on manual exposure or aperture priority mode before attending this workshop. This workshop requires a little walking so dress comfortably.

Join us for this lesson in one of the most popular areas of photography and take the next step in becoming a better photographer.

Coming from just doing landscape photography, I learned a lot from this workshop. I really enjoyed shooting people for a change. Thanks Nick & Don. Also I posted 3 photos, feel free to give me some constructive criticism.

Thank you for this lesson. Three hours of amazing work - it was interesting and informative! I received much more knowledge about outdoor Artificial Light than I expected. My first experience was successful. Especially I liked to shoot with a soft box.

Thank you to everybody who attended this workshop. Don't forget to upload your images to this workshop's gallery so we can view them and leave feedback.
You all learned the techniques you will need to know to take amazing portraits; it just takes a little equipment, patience, and most important - practice.

We hope to see you all in our future classes.

I find that this event proved to be superb. My fellow attendees and I conversed, and agreed that the tools, tips and techniques were first rate.

Today there is a marathon event in the Balboa Park area, so we recommend that everybody try to arrive at least 30 minutes to find parking and in case there is traffic.

If you arrive late or need directions, please call us at[masked]

Hello there, so I purchased a voucher for July 13th. Can I use it for the one this Sunday instead? (June 2nd). I'm too eager and cannot wait another month! I noticed there are 13 spots available.

Yes, feel free to RSVP for this Sunday's class.

Hi there guys, I looked at your photo album for previous classes and noticed that most photographers were shooting with the telephoto lenses. I have a Nikkor 24-70mm. Will this suffice for the class?

    May 28, 2013

    • Donald C.

The 24-70 will work fine. You will probably be shooting at 70mm most of the time.
