Introduction to Photography

This beginners workshop introduces the fundamentals of photography during a walking tour of the beautiful Balboa Park. If you just bought a camera or are new to photography and want to learn how to take beautiful photos, this workshop is for you. This workshop will introduce you to the basic fundamentals of photography exposure and composition techniques that will open the door to endless photographic possibilities. This is a hands on learning experience and a great opportunity to capture beautiful photos of one of San Diego's most scenic areas under the instruction of experienced professional photographers.

This workshop will cover:

How cameras work
Camera controls and functions
Lenses
The importance of light
Fundamentals of exposure
Shutter speed, Aperture, ISO
Depth of field
White balance
Basic composition techniques
Composing your photos

This workshop takes place outdoors and involves a little walking, so we recommend that you dress comfortably and consider sunscreen.

Don't forget to bring your camera, batteries, and memory cards.

We recommend that you have a DSLR camera or an advanced point and shoot camera with manual mode. We do not rent equipment.

A few notes for this class:

We will be meeting at the Tea Pavilion at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park. The address is 2215 Pan American Plaza, San Diego, California 92101.

* Please bring and present your printed or smartphone deal vouchers to one of the instructors. If you did not purchase a deal voucher, please bring $98 cash. *

Please bring your camera along with any lenses you may have. Make sure you have a memory card and charged batteries.

We recommend that you arrive at the park at least 15 minutes early to find parking. The park is busy on the weekends.

During the workshop we will be walking around Balboa Park, so we suggest that you wear comfortable clothing and shoes.

Our mission is to teach people with a passion for photography how to take better photos, master the capabilities of their camera, and understand the world of photography through hands-on education and guidance from industry professionals.
