I was more active in songwriting in the past (although I never had anything published or recorded). I recenlty started playing with it again, and I'd like to see what I can do. My occupation is a writer, but in an area far removed from songwriting.
Mainly acoustic guitar-based, pop and light rock songs with an emphasis on lyrics. I'm weak on catchy melodies and I'm not a musician, so I'd especially like to improve in those areas.
Acoustic guitar; used to play piano, too. I'm comfortable singing my own songs, but I've never really performed.
It would be interesting to experience collaboration and learn something from the process. Because I feel my lyric writing is stronger than my ability to write melodies, it might be nice to work with someone who needs a lyricist.
I can try and explain how I craft a lyric. It's important to me that a song says something well and does not relay on the music to carry the song.
I'm hoping that through this group there might eventually be a place to hear my songs, but as of now, you'd have to request a live performance or settle for a few poorly recorded tapes that have been transfered to MP3s.
