I'm a multi-instrumentalist, aspiring music freelancer recently moved to San Diego. Into world/ethnic musics (particularly Middle Eastern, Balkan, Roma, S. European, N. & W. African, Latin American, Brazilian), jazz, pop, electronic ...
Reggae, Ska, Turkish, Arabic, Mexican, Pop, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Jamming. I'd like to meet other cool locals, network, learn, grow, and have some fun! It
Saxophone (alto), Accordion, Keyboard, Flute, Bass, Guitar, Darbuka, Percussion, Vocals. I sing for fun, and have sang backup in bands, not too bent on being the best singer or anything though :)
Yes! I'm always up for laying down some tracks on a recording for folks, or a good old jam session (one of the best types of collaboration, no?) :)
I have less experience songwriting (lyrics and vocal melodies) but plenty experience composing, sequencing, producing and mixing music for personal projects, for sale as stock music, for vidoe games, and for bands I've been in ... so I have plenty to bring to the table in that regard.
My main soundcloud has some diverse stuff on it: http://www.soundcloud.com/chrisjhampton .. at the end is my music bed demoreel: http://soundcloud.com/chrisjhampton/carbon8productions-audio-demo-feb-2010 Also I have a chiptune sideproject, ... not sure who or if anyone might be interested in this obscure niche kinda thing but whatever: http://www.soundcloud.com/b-e-e-k
Fisrt meetup I've been to, and from what I gathered there were nothing but kind folks and good times had by all :)
I forgot to say you always have to option of doing other songs as long as you bring charts for the rest of the musicians - nice if you have transposed charts for the trumpets, saxes etc...Kim
Well, if you went to one of the big performance jams you would meet many of the active members and get an idea of where you might fit with the other musicians. If you have one or two of the songs from the top 40 learned you can play as a soloist with the house band. The small jams at people's homes fill up super fast so you have to jump on it - even if you discover you can't make it later. I host often because i like smaller groups. You just jump in somewhere!! See you soon!
