Halloween is right around the corner and to celebrate we're throwing a pumpkin carving contest and Halloween-themed bash poolside at the super swanky Pearl Hotel in Point Loma [@thepearlhotel] with NBC San Diego, and everyone is invited. Bring your favorite tweeting device, a pumpkin to carve (if you want to compete), and your awesome artistic vision. We'll have a live Twitter stream from Tweet Wall Live (these guys rock!), carving kits on hand, and newspaper for all the gooey pumpkin carving goodness. You can come just for the thrill of carving pumpkins alongside your favorite Twitter names, or you can come to compete, as the top prize will be a one night stay at The Pearl Hotel. NBC San Diego is an official sponsor of the event, and they'll be offering a hosted bar to include free Vampire Kiss Martinis for a limited time. Let's make sure to show them, and The Pearl Hotel, some Twitter love for helping to put together this awesome night of Halloween goodies and antics. Event Details: Start time: 7:30 pm |

19 attended (est.) – No rating yet The awesome crew at StayClassy is putting together a must attend event that will be just as fantastic as a typical San Diego Tweetup, but for an even better purpose: to raise funds to build a shelter for San Diego's homeless youth. All of San Diego's Twitterati, Digerati, and even local media personalities will come together atop the rooftop of the Hotel Solamar to socialize for social good and raise funds for the Campaign for Abandoned Youth. NBC San Diego will be covering the event, with yours-truly as the official on-site/on-camera representative interviewing attendees. The entertainment lineup is to die for, and of course, there will be geekified extras like a live Twitter wall, a stream of photos displayed as they happen, and a live broadcast of the event. Check the official website for full details, and to RSVP. So make sure to tweet about the #sdtwestival and help put San Diego on the map to become the most socially conscious Twittering city participating in the international event. I hope you'll join us and raise awareness (by tweeting about it of course, use #sdtwestival for the hashtag) for this truly amazing event. See you Saturday at the Hotel Solamar! What is Twestival? Twestival (Twitter inspired Festival) is a global fundraising event taking place in 211+ cities around the world at the same time, raising money for causes local to each city. StayClassy.org and friends are proud to host the San Diego Twestival at the Hotel Solamar to help raise money to build a shelter in our city for homeless kids ages 18-24 years old. 100% of the proceeds from this event will go direct towards this fundraising campaign (Campaign for Abandoned Youth). http://img.skitch.co |

--- UPDATE: Trapster to Sponsor Drinks --- We've managed to secure a super awesome drink sponsor! Trapster [@Trapster] will be sponsoring a hosted bar with a nice little tab, which means you get free drinks (for a limited time) on top of all the other awesome SDTweetup details. Make sure to show your appreciation for our awesome sponsor on Twitter! About Trapster: Trapster [@Trapster] is the first location-based mobile application that alerts users in real-time when they approach speed traps. It is a free, community-powered, mobile app for iPhone, Android, Nokia, and BlackBerry. --- VIP Seats Twitter Contest Details --- http://farm4.static. To be eligible for VIP seating: --- Event Details --- Given his celebrity status, Shawne's perspective on social media and Twitter is very unique, so this time around we're going to top our typical mixer events with a Q&A session with Shawne moderated by yours truly and broadcast live - starting at 8pm PST - to his Ustream channel. We'll be taking questions from the audience in attendance and via Twitter and Ustream so make sure to use the hashtag #LightsOut56 (and #sdwteetup if you want) if you're posing a question for Shawne or talking about the event. Of course SDTweetup attendees will also be able to meet (and tweet with) Shawne, so there's certainly a big bonus in store for those of you that can make it out to the event. Stingaree has graciously offered to host the event, and we'll be doing the Ustream Q&A with Shawne Merriman from this hit downtown hot spot. They're giving us VIP access and treatment, complete with a free sushi bar, and happy hour prices until 10:00pm, for this extra special event. We're also going to do some really awesome things with 12seconds, and Sol Lipman will be in attendance to help us capture 12second snippets of super awesome SDTweetup moments and share them with our envious online friends. You also might want to keep an eye out on Shawne's 12second channel. ;) So come out and join us on Thursday night and make sure to say "#sdtweetup" Interested drink and event sponsors, should email me at jvangrove gmail com. |

It's been too long since our last SDTweetup, and to remedy that fact we're going to party like the Twitter rock stars we are in true Twitterati style because our group is kind of a big deal. We're taking over Wine Cabana in Old Town (my favorite wine bar) for a Saturday night of socializing, singing, and of course tweeting. There will be the return of the Twitter wall, courtesy of @gebl, and even a Rock Band setup (thx @downtownrob) so those of us with Qik and video cams can capture you're awesome drumming, singing, or guitar playing prowess to share with the Twitterverse. Wine Cabana is graciously giving us the fantastic space and some free appetizers, as well as honoring happy hour prices all night for our group. Of course we do have a fabulous sponsor - Network Velocity, so there will be a hosted wine bar until supplies run out. If you're new to the group, or have never intended an event, don't be scared. We're a fun bunch and I know alot of us have made new friends and cemented Twitter relationships, and even business deals, at the tweetups. Plus I'm always looking for great new San Diego startups to talk to, so if that's you then you should definitely come chat me up. Our sponsor, Network Velocity, provides comprehensive IT Support Services, Application Hosting and CIO level strategy and guidance. Their experts provide worry-free solutions that streamline your business processes, improve your bottom line and reduce IT headaches. Definitely make sure to reach out to @nvelocity on Twitter and tweet your support of their sponsorship. Use hashtags #sdtweetup and #nvelocity when tweeting (or blogging) about the event and don't be afraid to retweet. I hope to reclaim our status atop Twitter's trending topics and solidify our place at the top of the tweetup chain. See you soon! |

2 years ago I organized a group of 20 or so friends and family to head up to watch the Price is Right. It's a little known show secret that group status assures that one member of the group gets to "come on down." On my last trip, my brother was the lucky chosen one and he ended up winning over $28,000 in cash and prizes - which included a new car. So I had this crazy idea that it would be great to take our SDTweetup group on the road and see who gets lucky. I've called ahead, booked a group of 25, and now just need to work out people and carpools. I'll organize the carpools and look into a group party bus, but I do need to know who is willing to drive and how many people you can fit in your car. Anyone have a giant van? :) Here are the details you NEED to know before you RSVP: Every potential contestant is interviewed by the production crew of the Price is Right for approximately 10 - 15 seconds. They ask you what you do professionally and what you like to do for fun. They're looking for energy, spunk, and creativity. We're limited to bringing 25 members, so please only RSVP if you can come. You can RSVP for one guest, but they do need to be aware of all the requirements and I will need their name, email address, and phone number for coordination purposes. Also, we can keep our phones and tweet like crazy while we wait in line, but once we enter the studio they will bag them and give us each a tag. Just something to keep in mind. I had zero issues with getting my phone back last time, but I know some of you are super protective of your phones. Okay stop reading and go RSVP. Space is limited! |

KPBS (@kpbsnews) is graciously hosting our next SDTweetup for a new media/twitter networking and social event (aka Twitter party). We're going to take over their studios like the rock stars we are. There will be food, drinks (of the alcohol variety), a green screen photo area, Wii setup, and of course the return of the TwitterBoard (thanks to @gebl). There are still a few surprises left to come, so stay tuned! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and making new media news. IMPORTANT VENUE INFORMATION Building Entrance: Please use the main entrance on Campanile Dr. The Lobby Exterior doors will be unlocked from 7 PM until 9 PM and someone will be stationed at the front desk throughout this period. The Ext Lobby doors lock at 9 PM, and guests will be able to leave freely, but be unable to re-enter the building. |

The Pearl Hotel, a trendy Point Loma hot spot, is proud to host our group and let us take full advantage of the poolside cabanas and bar from 7:30 - 11:00pm on Tuesday, September 23. They'll be graciously providing our group with a myriad of appetizers to include grilled cheese, miso mustard jidori skewers, bruschetta, and plenty of salad. Make sure to bring business cards, because we'll be doing a raffle at 9pm for a Tacorita Tuesday Package for 10 that includes 2 free tacos and 1 margarita per person. Right now we've got food covered by the Pearl and three awesome sponsors covering a hosted bar. The hosted bar will consist of Stella, House Red, House White, and a Cucumber Cosmo. Please thank, support, and tweet about our sponsors WebWizards.net, Newsforce, and Engine Ready and show them some love. I've been thrilled and amazed at the turnouts for the tweetups, and I'm really looking forward to seeing you all at the next one. |

Our 3rd Tweetup was a huge success and a whole lot of fun. Major thanks to our two sponsors for ponying up to cover a hosted beer bar and delicious appetizers at Rock Bottom in La Jolla. I hope you'll show some twitter love to both Rob Marlboro and his company WebWizards.net, and me , Jennifer Van Grove, for helping to put on another great SD Tweetup. Our next Tweetup will be poolside at the Lafayette Hotel, which happens to be a San Diego landmark. We've reserved part of the bar and the poolside decks for our venue, so I'm envisioning a beautiful summer evening with an open bar and appetizers. Yes, I said open bar, which means beer, wine, AND cocktails! On a side note, our group is gaining local media attention, so keep your eyes out for a piece on Twitter and our SD Tweetup group which should make the front page of the Union Tribune. The latest news is that the UT will be sending a photographer to the Tweetup to take a pic of our group to include with the article. Don't forget to follow me on twitter and join the LinkedIn group too. Make sure to tag your all your content (tweets, photos, blog posts) with #sdtweetup. |
