Join me for this rite of passage ride, the Great Western Loop. Rural route with some great climbing, giddy descents, lots of rollers, beautiful scenery, and visit with Blackjack the donkey.
This is a fairly challenging ride of 41 miles with 4,300 feet elevation gain (this is not a beginner's ride). Even so, this is a social pace ride (average of 10-12 mph due to climbing), no-drop ride; we stick together for fun and safety. We'll get an early start to beat most of the heat.
Please bring at least two large water bottles, plenty of energy snacks. There's only one rest stop for water/snacks at the Lyons Valley Trading Post.

We meet in the parking lot in front of the Rite Aid Pharmacy in the Rancho San Diego shopping center. We start riding no later than 7:10am.
Rain, dense fog, high winds, or extreme temperatures (lower than 55F higher than 79F) cancels this ride.
Preparedness: Please ride with at least 2 large water bottles, extra tubes and/or patch kit, CO2 cartridges or pump, $10 cash and credit card in case of mechanical breakdown that requires bus or taxi, cellphone, snacks for energy, electrolytes if it is hot outside. Please complete your bike safety check 24 hours prior to the ride: break pads, chains, gears, derailleurs, rims, tires.
