Ride 61 mountainous miles from Chula Vista up Honey Springs & Lyons Valley Rds

Feel like burning off all the turkey and Thanksgiving goodies off in one ride? I'm riding up the mountains east of Chula Vista on Saturday December 8th and welcome up to 3 other aspiring mountain goat on two wheels to come along.

I'm afraid this ride is not suitable for beginners or any rider that has trouble riding up things like Torrey Pines inside or the Nautilus route up Mt Soledad without stopping. There are a couple of leg-chewing climbs up Honey Springs Rd (7 miles of 5% grade) and Lyons Valley Rd (1/2 as bad, but comes late in the show), and a few rollers. The view will be fantastic. After climbing Honey Springs Rd and a mile up Skyline Truck Trail you'll enjoy 4 miles of some of the most spectacular 360 mountain top view in the county... a view worth earning.

Riding at moderate pace (this is a joy ride for me, not a training ride or a race), this should take 6-7 hrs). If you come, please bring a spare inner tube, air pump or CO2 cartridges, wind jacket, 2 big water bottles, snack or energy bars, cellphone, $10 cash in case of emergency. Please check bike tires and brakes before leaving the house. There is a couple of fast descents on the route. Helmet strongly suggested.

*This ride is automatically canceled in event of rain or fog along the route.

A bit ambitious a route. We had fog delay and started a bit late. View was good along route, tho. Erica made mole hill out of Honey Springs climb (are you sure you're a vixen rather than a mountain goat?). Eche's persistence paid off and he bagged his first real mountain climb just a month into road cycling. Really well done, Vixens! :o)

Good going, Angie! Honey Spring sure is a leg-chewing thing. You probably burned off all your Thanksgiving feasted going up and down that thing already! :o)
