Ride Around Pt Loma

A 28 mile loop from Founders Plaza in Balboa Park (north side of El Prado between 6th Ave and Balboa Dr) through Mission Hills and around Pt Loma.

Founders Plaza in Balboa Park

A level warm up through Liberty Station and Shelter Island before taking not-very-well-traveled route up Fleet Ridge by way of Lucinda St (this will be too steep for most to ride up, but you should walk the bike up anyway, and keep looking back toward downtown. It's postcard view of the city!). A little loop around Pt Loma Nazarene University before descending down to Sunset Cliffs, meandering through the well kept 'hood into Ocean Beach to pick up OB Bike Path back into Old Town for a final climb up Presidio Dr to Mission Hills... and back to Balboa Park.
Route Map:

This is a 'coffee shop ride', so to speak, and not a training ride. Pace is leisurely with photo stops along the very scenic route. We will be riding about a mile on packed dirt trails (Bessemer Path & San Antonio Path along the La Playa shore). Rideable on road and mountain bikes (no fixie, though).

If you come, please check bike tires & brakes before hand, and bring spare tire tube and air pump or CO2 canisters, snack or energy bars, water bottles, and $5 cash in case of mechanical break down (so you can catch a bus back).

Route preview: (Just to give you some idea of the route terrain. I use handheld camera, so I can't shoot when in a lot of traffic, on very rough terrain, going up steep hill or going downhill)

We beat the rain! :) It was great riding with Amberly, Katie, Ming & Justin, adventurous souls who braved all the icky steep hills and local secret paths with aplomb! Thanks for coming and hope to ride you you all again.
