April Meeting: "Scapa Flow" By Peter Venoutsos

Scapa Flow is one of Britain’s most historic stretches of water – located within the Orkney Islands, off the northeast coast of Scotland. Its sheltered waters have played an important role in travel, trade and conflict throughout the centuries – especially during both World Wars. Come and explore the remains of Germany’s World War I fleet from Battleships to Cruisers.

Peter Venoutsos has been a certified diver since 1976 and a commercial diver since 1983. His experience includes working with private underwater engineering firms, the Federal Government and the US Navy. He is an active member of the Connecticut Underwater Archeology Committee and his interests include underwater photography, shipwrecks & cave diving. He is the founder of American Scuba Adventures a underwater video company with the goal of promoting diving in the United States and around the world.

I agree that it was a great presentation. One that I wish was a bit longer. Really enjoyed the history in Scapa Flow.

I have a friend in the UK who has organized a trip to Scapa Flow from 29 Aug returning 6 Sep for 7 days of diving on the liveaboard M/V Karin. There are still some spots left.

The cost is about $1200US for flights from Newark to Glasgow + GBP475 for diving, 2 meals, doubles & 100% deco (about $800US). Dinners are separate. I assumed $2400 all in.

Contact me at [masked] or[masked] if you're interested.

This will be my first meetup. I am still learning about scuba diving. I'm looking forward to meeting the group to discuss its activities.
