The Seattle PHP Meetup Group Monthly Meetup

This 2nd meetup in our SSSummer series and will be focused on Servers.

Lukas Dickie will be talking to us about Nginx.

Nginx powers over 40,000,000 domains on the Internet, and over 20% of the top 1000 busiest websites around the world, including Facebook, Zappos, Groupon, LivingSocial, Hulu, TechCrunch, Dropbox, and WordPress.

We'll learn:

- Nginx installation best practices

- Nginx custom builds

- Nginx security

- Nginx + PHP goodness

---

Pending there is extra time, Jeremy Lindblom will show us some parts of his recent "Controlling the AWS Cloud with PHP" presentation that was featured in the recent php[architect] DevOps Summit. He will talk about provisioning servers and application stacks in the AWS cloud programmatically with PHP.

There is no recording, sorry. In fact, if anyone wants to step up to be the official "Czar of Recording", that would be fantastic.

Was this meeting recorded. If so where can I watch it?

The meetup this month was great! What a contrast between building an nginx custom server from the ground up and comparing that to spinning up a PHP enabled server via AWS in seconds! We saw both ends of the spectrum! Both presentations were excellent!

Thanks Jeremy! I had a great time at the meeting and enjoyed both talks. I look forward to trying out Nginx. Now if I could just get my Linode site to connect with with my AWS RDS I'll be set :)

I might be there. There's a techcrunch meetup at the showbox market from 6pm-10pm, which i'm gonna check out. BTW, Someone might want to assume ownership of the group from Wes :) He hasn't been attending, but still pays the dues.

Dear Organizers, I'm sorry for asking this this late but is it okay if I take my friend who is not a member of this Meetup? She is not a member of the group just because she is not a programmer but I heard she is personally interested in PHP people. Or does she need to be a member to enter the room?

    Hello everybody,

I am a recent graduate with over 7 years of LAMP experience. Due to my visa requirements, I need to find a paid or unpaid job ASAP. I don't really have the need for money, so I am totally up for volunteering as long as I find a good company or an individual with a good project. Hit me up at ilyasserter [at] gmail.com

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
