Say I have a Where clause like below for doing FULLTEXT searching: (it's in CodeIgniter syntax)

$this->db->where('MATCH (engines.engine, makes.make, models.model) AGAINST ('+first_word +second_word +third_word' IN BOOLEAN MODE');

The words the user searched for are passed in as a variable named $search_term

$search term may be several words like "2002 BMW 540i" or "JD Daniels drives a 1979 Ford Pinto" or just one word like "Honda"...

so how do I split that (explode?) and get them into the
first-word, second_word, third-word spots etc. knowing there could be any number of words?
