I've generally seen this called scaffolding. I'm curious how much of it you end up rewriting vs keeping? I found that I ended up rewriting almost all of the scaffolding and so I just stopped using it. If there were tables that I wanted to edit and didn't have scaffolding for I just use a db interface like navcat or phpmyadmin.

I have been using the Yii framework for the last year.  It is working pretty well and it's very easy to get up and running, yet powerful enough to do everything I want.  I absolutely love the fact that I can build the database first and then it can automatically handle the generation of all the model/controller and crud operations.  Maybe other frameworks can do that too, I'm not sure, but after looking at several when I was choosing one in late 2011, I didn't find any.  I'm liking the Active Record more and more.  It also has a built-in integration with jquery/ ajax.  I'm still open to finding something better ... but my requirement is that whatever I'm using has to be quick to understand, otherwise it's just too complicated and probably difficult to work on daily.
