"The Master"

Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" returns to the Seattle area for a brief repeat run prior to the Oscars. If you missed it last Fall, here's another chance to see what all the fuss is about; the film has three Academy Award acting nominations (Joaquin Phoenix - Best Actor, Amy Adams - Best Supporting Actress, Philip Seymour Hoffman - Best Supporting Actor).

"A striking portrait of drifters and seekers in post World War II America, Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master unfolds the story of a Naval veteran (Joaquin Phoenix) who arrives home from war unsettled and uncertain of his future -- until he is tantalized by The Cause and its charismatic leader (Philip Seymour Hoffman)." -- Rotten Tomatoes (86% score)

Landmark's Crest Theater has been a neighborhood fixture in North City since 1949. Recently updated with state-of-the-art DLP digital projection, the theater features four auditoriums and a full-service concessions area. Best of all, tickets for all shows are just $3!

Exit from I-5 eastbound onto NE 175th St, drive two blocks to make a right onto 5th Ave NE, and continue south a short ten blocks to the theater. Limited free parking is available in the Crest's lot, and ample street parking is also available in designated areas.

Showtime is scheduled as 5:15 pm. Timing is subject to change; please check this page again prior to the Meetup to confirm.

For those interested, the new book on L. Ron Hubbard and Scientology is called "Going Clear" by Lawrence Wright.

Thanks to Don for picking an interesting selection. Very enjoyable discussion afterwards.

The acting is excellent & I loved Amy Adams being the manipulative heavy for a change. To add to my difficulties attending your well planned meetups, I am having the first of two surgeries Tues.morn.
Thank goodness for Oscar noms. reaching "on demand" & netflix for those I didn't get to see. Just saw "Sessions"& had no idea iron lungs were being used in the 80's. Working hard. to see the rest before the Acacademy Awards 'cause it is my Super Bowl!

Anyone interested in seeing the Oscar Nominated Short Films (live action and animated) sometime this week? The series is coming to the Harvard Exit. http://seattletimes.com/html/entertainment/2020259913_movieoscarxml.html

I don't think you drive ten blocks south of NE 175th. It is more like five blocks. Just drive south until you reach NE 165th. This will be a small (!) business district sitting in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

It doesn't start there until Friday, but if you go to the Landmark site (http://www.landmarkth...) and put in Sunday's date, you will see it listed under the Crest.
