THE SILENCE, a German crime thriller

What better way to celebrate April Fool's Day than with a dark descent into crime drama?  Well yeah, I think a comedy would be more appropriate, too, but The Silence looks like one heck of a film.

From the Landmark website:

On a hot summer day, a bicycle is found in a field of wheat—the exact scene of an unsolved crime committed 23 years ago. Just as before, a 13-year-old girl is missing, bringing back horrific memories to the mother of the first victim and the now-retired investigating officer of that case. Why has the first crime been so exactly replicated, and does it mean that both were committed by the same man, so many years apart?

The movie starts at 7 pm, so we will be meeting in the lobby at 6:45 and grabbing our seats around 6:50 (note: I plan to be there around 6:30, so feel free to come in anytime after that).  Once the credits are finished, we will head back into the lobby to regroup before heading to a local coffee shop for our post-movie discussion, most likely Trabant Coffee (on 45th St., right around the corner from the Varsity).

There is paid street parking until 8 pm, though I would recommend coming by bus, since Bus 30, 71,72, and 73 all stop near the theater.  Also, the reviews and even the official website appear to reveal information that I would rather not know before seeing the film, so I have decided not to include those links.  I can, however, provide you a link to the trailer, which reveals nothing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PIrqvXhUK8U

The film has no MPAA rating and has a run-time of 1 hour 59 minutes.

Hope to see you there!

Greg

Interesting movie and it was nice to have a discussion afterwords. I rarely get to do that.

Hope you can come out to more of them. For me, the meetup is all about the discussion. Otherwise, it's no different from seeing a film by myself.

First great film of the year for me, one that can be interpreted on many different levels (as our discussion afterwards proved): as psychological, symbolic, crime drama, etc. Thanks to everyone who came, especially those who stuck around for the discussion, which was one of the better ones I've been to!

Sorry to hear that, Shannon. It will be playing until at least Thursday, so hope you can see it before it leaves the theater.

Just a reminder to everyone to find me in the lobby after you buy your ticket. Also, write down my phone number, in case you can't make it at the last minute. Finally, please keep your RSVP up-to-date, as a courtesy to me and other attendees, who might be looking for a large crowd that isn't coming. Thanks!

Sorry, I'd love to see this, but I might not be back from Rainier in time. Damned sunshine, competing for my affections!
