Sarah Polley's STORIES WE TELL at the Seven Gables

  • Jun 20, 2013 · 6:45 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Stories We Tell, which played at SIFF this year, is now making its way through theaters in Seattle.  We will be watching the 7:05 screening at the Seven Gables.  Once the end credits have finished, we will all meet up in the lobby before heading out for our optional post-movie discussion, probably at Trabant Coffee on 45th and Brooklyn.

On the surface, Stories We Tell is a documentary by Sarah Polley about her mother, Diane Polley, who died in 1990.  Below the surface, it is about how we can never really know the whole truth about someone.

Here is Sheila O'Malley's marvelous, spoiler-free, four-star review of the film:

For anyone who's new to meetup (or hasn't been to one of mine in a while), please follow these simple steps to ensure an enjoyable movie-going experience:

1. Arrive at the Seven Gables around 6:45 (I'll be there ten minutes before).  There is a parking lot, but it's small, so be prepared to hunt for street parking.  There is some free street parking above 50th (2 hour parking until 8 pm).  Coming by bus is even better, as Bus 66 drops off right next to the theater.

2.  Enter the Seven Gables and purchase your ticket(s).

3. Look for me in the lobby and introduce yourself.  I will mark you as attending.  If you can't come last minute, post something in the comments section for the meetup, or call me.  Otherwise, I'll mark you as a "no show."

3. At around 6:55, all of us will head into the theater.  While it's nice if everyone sits together, it's not required.

4. Turn off all cell phones and don't talk during the movie.  That includes whispering.  I will shush you. :-)

5. You don't have to stay for the credits, but I will.  If you're planning on going with us to the post-film discussion, wait in the lobby (NOT OUTSIDE) until everyone has come out of the theater, gone to the restroom, etc.  Once everyone is accounted for, we will leave the theater together.  If you're not coming to the post-film discussion, feel free to hang out with us in the lobby until we leave.

Hope to see you there!

A great film, followed by an excellent discussion which almost everyone stayed for. Thanks for coming, everyone!

Well, there is a reason it's called "unexpected" company. ;-) Thanks for letting me know.

Thanks for the invite. Are there a parking of admission fees?

    June 19, 2013

    • Greg

The parking lot is free, but there are only four spaces in it (told you it was small!). Some street parking on non-main roads is free; the rest is paid parking until either 6 or 8, depending on how far north you go.

If the chosen night and time don't work, perhaps the group could be accomodates at rhw Ark Lodge Cinema in Columbia City. It's a great little neighborhood theater with three screens.

I saw this film at the Full Frame Doc Festival last April and loved it. I'm game to meet afterward to discuss if anyone wants to join me!

You're welcome to join us afterwards, if you want. Just call me and leave a voicemail, and I can call you back when the movie gets out. We'll probably be heading to Trabant Coffee around 9, but the location might change.

School commitment - it's a shame they conflict - I'm interested to see this film.
