As much as I dislike 3D, the only 2D showing of Man of Steel is on Tuesdays, and I usually work then. Therefore, we will be watching a 3D showing of Man of Steel at the Cinerama on Thursday at 7 pm.
Man of Steel is an origin story superhero movie directed by Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen) and produced by Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight) that takes a darker approach to the Superman character. General Zod (Michael Shannon) reappears in this one as the bad guy, while Henry Cavill plays the adult Superman, Amy Adams plays Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner play Ma and Pa Kent. In addition, Russell Crowe takes on the Brando role of Superman's biological father.
If you have some free time, here is an extensive review of the film by Matt Zoller Seitz that still manages to avoid any spoilers: http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/man-of-steel-2013 Currently the film is scoring a 56% on Rotten Tomatoes, which means that the critical consensus on this one will probably be split. Still, it should lead to a fascinating discussion afterwards!
We'll be meeting in the lobby, right beyond the ticket taker, between 6:30 and 6:45. I'll be grabbing seats early, so if anyone else is planning on being there before 6:30 and wants to help me grab seats, let me know. At around 6:50, we will all go inside and grab seats inside the theater, so if you come late, look for us in there. My cell phone will be on until roughly 6:55, but I can't accept text messages, so call if you can't find us. Otherwise, we'll be regrouping in the lobby once the end credits have finished, near where we met before the film began. If you don't see anyone there when you leave the theater, it's possible that we're all in the restroom. After everyone has returned from the restroom, we'll head out to a local establishment for a post-film discussion.
The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 138 minutes in length, meaning that it will probably end around 9:30. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased day of show or ahead of time through Cinerama's website: http://www.cinerama.com/ While the show shouldn't sell out, there is no fee for purchasing tickets over the Internet.
Hope to see everyone there!
