It is with great sadness that I read that the Uptown Theater will close forever on November 28 at the end of the business day after 84 years of operation:
I recall seeing movies like "Morgan" (Vanessa Redgrave's first major film), "2001" and other great films at this terrific venue. Some of the contemporary films that I saw here included: "Titanic Town" with an audience of about ten persons, "K-19 The Widow Maker", "Mic Macs", "Public Enemy".... and "A Film Unfinished" just a month or so ago..
We will be viewing the 4:30 showing of "You Will Meet a Tall, Dark Stranger" which is Woody Allen's latest film which isn't all that bad. We will be here to celebrate the closing of a much beloved movie theater and not Woody Allen so come to see one last film at the Uptown.
Meet me in theater's lobby at 4:15. I am an Asian male who wears glasses. I might remember to wear a beret or a black rain hat, but if I forget look for the guy who looks like he could be a member of the hair club for men. My cell phone,[masked], will be on until the program begins.
There will be an optional food and beverage stop after the film.
Good bye Uptown.
