Her is a story set in a slightly futuristic Los Angeles, where Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) lives.  From Landmark's website:

Heartbroken after the end of a long relationship, he [Twombly] becomes intrigued with a new, advanced operating system, which promises to be an intuitive entity in its own right, individual to each user. Upon initiating it, he is delighted to meet "Samantha," a bright, female voice (Scarlett Johansson) who is insightful, sensitive and surprisingly funny. As her needs and desires grow, in tandem with his own, their friendship deepens into an eventual love for each other.

Written and directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich, Where the Wild Things Are), the film is rated R for language, sexual content, and brief graphic nudity. Run time: 126 mins (a little over two hours).

PLEASE READ: We will be meeting at 6:45 for the 7:05 film.  Buy your ticket inside, then meet me in the lobby.  At about 6:50 pm, we will all go into the theater as a group.  I will then come out and wait for stragglers until roughly 7 pm.  My phone also will stay on until that time.  If you cannot find us, either call or text me.  PLEASE DO NOT ASK THEATER STAFF WHERE WE ARE, AS THEY WILL NOT KNOW.  If you are unable to find the group before the movie, wait in the lobby after the credits finish.  We will be regrouping there (and waiting for anyone who needs to use the restroom) before heading to either the DeLuxe Bar and Grill (on the corner) or Roy Street Coffee & Tea (on the other corner) for an optional post-film discussion.

The film is currently scoring a 91 out of 100 on Metacritic: http://www.metacritic.com/movie/her

If you're coming by bus, Bus 49 drops off right near the theater.  If you're coming by car, you'll have to find street parking, which can be an adventure in Capitol Hill on a Saturday, so give yourself extra time.  Most street parking requires payment until 8 pm.

Hope to see you there!

Greg

I mentioned this to a few people in the discussion after the film, and thought they might like more details:

Oops, it's bad form of me to share a link without a hint of the content. The article describes an artificial intelligence experiment last year that examined 10 million Youtube videos, and learned to recognize cat videos.

Also, as there were a lot more of you afterwards than there were before we went into the movie, check and make sure that I didn't mark you as a no-show by mistake. Just send me a message saying that you were there.

A very good film, and one that made you think. Plus that last shot brilliantly ended the film, in a scene in which words would have ruined it. Thanks to everyone who was patient as I tried to find a location to hold such a large group!

I'm still trying to sort out my reactions to the film. Might just have to see it again before I decide... GREAT acting!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
