We will be attending the National Theater Live's presentation of “War Horse” at the SIFF/Uptown Cinemas at 1:00 pm. This is not the Disney film. It is a film made of the stage play as it was performed in London's West End. Here is a description of the film:
National Theatre Live will broadcast War Horse live from London’s West End to cinemas around the world on February 27, 2014.
Since its first performance at the National Theatre in 2007, War Horse has become an international smash hit.
Based on Michael Morpurgo’s novel and adapted for the stage by Nick Stafford, War Horse takes audiences on an extraordinary journey from the fields of rural Devon to the trenches of First World War France. Filled with stirring music and songs, this powerfully moving and imaginative drama is a show of phenomenal inventiveness. At its heart are astonishing lifesized puppets by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company, who bring breathing, galloping, charging horses to thrilling life on stage.
Don’t miss your chance to experience this landmark production in a cinema near you next year.
Please note that we will not be attending the “live” broadcast on February 27. The venue (Lincoln Square) and time (7:00 pm) are not satisfactory for a cinema club meetup, and the length of the program – 180 minutes – means that there will be at best a scaled down post film discussion/social hour. We will be attending a Sunday afternoon performance which means that participants will have plenty of time to get to the venue and find parking, and that there will be a leisurely social hour afterwards.

In addition to the “live” broadcast there will be only seven encore showings in the Seattle market (M-F at 7:00 pm and Sa-Su @ 1:00) taking place during the last week of March. Given this program is family oriented unlike some of National Theatre Live's other presentations (“Frankenstein” and “Coriolanus”) my prediction that the Sunday showing will be in high demand. Participants are encouraged to purchase their tickets in advance. Here is the link to the on-line box office:
Tickets to War Horse
The ticket prices are $20.00 for the general public and $15.00 for SIFF members; there is a handling fee for on-purchases.
Meet me in the lobby of the SIFF/Uptown theater starting around 12:30. I am an Asian male who wears glasses and who will probably be wearing a cap of some type (beret, black rain hat, African brimless cap (kufi). A head shot of me appears in the photo section of my profile so you can see for whom to look. My cell phone,[masked], will be on until the start of the program. Please note that I use a “dumbphone” which is voice only (no data capability but it does meet Mil Standard 810G and can operate in a wide range of hostile environments such as a sandstorm) so do not text me or post a message on the web – I will not be able to read these.
There will be an optional beverage and snack stop at the conclusion of this film (i.e., after all the credits have rolled by). Meet me in in the lobby of the theater at which time we will decide which establishment to patronize.
